Here are todays topics of discussion on the Jeremy Vine show:

1 - Jimmy Mizen
Jeremy will be talking to Danny Mizen, following the murder of his younger brother Jimmy in south-east London on Saturday.

2 - Too Many Tests
The government has been told that Sats tests need to be reduced and are a barrier in children's learning. Do you agree?

3 - Burglar Meets Victim
We speak to a burglar and his victim about a new ‘restorative justice’ programme which allows victims of crime to meet offenders.

4 - Pay to Park at Work
Nottingham could become the first city to introduce workplace parking charges. Should employees have to pay to park in their staff carparks?

Maybe the league tables should be removed as that would seem to be the reason for a lot of these tests?

We were tested every year in Junior School in English, Maths and Social Subjects, then every year in every subject we took in Senior School.

It wasn't a problem, we just got on and did them. If schools and parents didn't pile on the pressure, children would get used to doing exams and there wouldn't be all this hassle about them.

To me the curriculum is based on getting the students to pass the test. So the kids are learning what the examiner wants to see not learning about the subject. As a result kids have loads of qualifications but no real understanding of the subject and how it works in the real world. Now this is taken to another level with University. Almost every kid comes out with a degree in blah blah but can't use it to get a job. So when shoved into th real world they are no better prepared than those who leave with the basics.

But this just goes in line with the Government fascination with statistics to prove somthing which isn't actually a true reflection of what is really going on. And if they can get some extra paperwork and bureacracy out of it then all the better.....

I really have to admire the Mizen family for their apparent lack of anger over Jimmy's murder--but why do I have a horrible feeling that it will catch up with them sooner or later?

2. The SATs do nothing for the children except stress them out. Everyone knows which are the good schools and the not so good schools in their local areas ( there are no bad schools). So the whole league table thing is a pointless political metric - nothing more than that. People should be encouraged to send their children to their local school - if it's not such a good school- get involved and make it better! Don't drive your children half way across the country in a Shogun twice a day on the basis of league tables.

3. Meet offenders! Depends what they did to you.

4.No doubt it will raise money for the Government on the misused premise that it's good for the environment.

That was Anthony Walker,H and his mother's name is Gee Walker. I guess some people have such strong faith that they can forgive these appalling crimes. Hardly a day goes by now without a knife murder somewhere in this country. Not only the victim, but the killer's lives are ruined by this culture today. There has always been crime of course, but random violence today seems to be commonplace. Drug culture and 'get rich quick' seem to be what these low lifes aspire to.
