This forum lacks fine members such as Mike Reynolds, who is a music enthusiast and a great person to get along with. The forum needs to encourage people like Mike to join.

Here's another pointer - the one-sided views that are only permitted on here. Constructive negativity = wholesome debates - like the ones seen on the Points of View board.

So what if people want to let off steam? Let them do so on here because since the closure of the old Radio 2 board in December the Points of View board is the only place to let off steam.

Yeah, I agree we need more postings, more debate, but I'm not for presenter-slaggings by folk who don't listen to R2 shows. The people who loathe SK don't listen, we know they don't listen, so they don't need to tell us. I'm more interested in SK listeners who have something to say about her.

I invited John Hutchinson back on here, and he did re-register but no post from him.

With millions of listeners you'd think more of them would look for a forum like this to post on. R3ok has more members and R3 has less than 20% listeners than R2.

If you Google uk pages for "radio 2 forum" this forum is tops. Where are those listeners? Rolling Eyes

I know I'm a newbie but I still have some thoughts on the issue.

I have to agree with John W about people just slagging off a show/presenter when they clearly haven't listened to it in ages. They just wade in saying this person is so and so without ever really backing up their opinion or making a contructive or sensible argument. One members way of making their point stick is linking us to a kicking game for every presenter they don't like. This of course means they win the debate Rolling Eyes

Perhaps if we had a dedicated thread to each show regularly listened to, for the people who actually listen, to discuss the show and such like. For example Rachel's thread on the Dark Lord's diaries is where you can just muse about the latest show or anything Lester related!

Those are my thoughts on the matter.

I would agree with the above 2 posters as well and think it would be a good idea for people who listen and enjoy shows to make a sort of 'diary' thread about them.

Just removing your account "Dean" would be a helpful start.

If you've just sneaked in to slag off Radio 2 again Scott you may as well leave now

Radio 2 is to me a bit flat just now, summer's here (I hope!) and according to several articles I've read, message board contributiions are down in general.

If there isn't anything happening we can't invent it Rolling Eyes It'll come back, you need to take a breather every now and then!

Fair comment. I haven't done a Pictogame for all the ones I don't like / listen to. I'll leave it for others to make up games for Steve Wright, Jonathan Ross, Dermot O'Leary etc, if they want to that is. I'm sure you 've noticed that I don't post links to my Kick-boys on all the messages that I post, and not all my messages are rants about shows / presenters I don't like. I do mention those I do like from time to time. I have also mentioned when I never wanted to go out on Saturdays because there was so much good stuff on in the afternoon / evening. That was before Lesley Douglas of course (btw- I didn't make up the LD kickgame- I've certainly had a few goes at it though!!) Well anyway, I've seen your signature photo, a reference to Alex Lester. For many years he was my midweek 'alarm clock' and a show I like a lot. I still hear the latter bit of it if I wake up earlier than I might have liked (More than happy to agree with Rachel on that one) Very funny and a great blog too. I like the storys on Sarah Kennedy's show and some of those on Terry Wogan's show. I like Ken Bruce too, popmaster & tracks of my years (particularly for the more unusual tracks) I've mentioned this before, but I'll say it again. I don't dislike all of Lesley Douglas' signings. I like Mark Radcliffe. He does a great job covering Steve Wright's show, improves it no end IMO, I enjoyed his previous late night show (even though he took over from another favourite of mine - Richard Allinson) And he is good as a double act with Stuart Maconie (Why did she do away with his Saturday afternoon show?) Pete Mitchell has his detracters on these boards, If that is their opinion then fine, it's allowed. I'm not one of them. I heard his previous Saturday show, again if I woke up a little too early and it was OK by me. He has deputised for Sarah Kennedy and Dermot O'Leary. I don't mind him.
Finally, I mentioned when Saturday afternoon was unmissable for me, It was at the time when Sunday wasn't on my listening agenda at all, unless I woke up very early and caught the latter half of Mo Dutta's show. but that was because the music content wasn't really for me as opposed to who's presenting the show. I don't mind a little 1930/40s stuff but not a whole day / night of it! Isn't it funny how it's now Saturday when I'm switching off R2 for virtually the whole day and there's now something for me on Sunday afternoon? (POTP & Johnny Walker)
Hope I haven't bored you too much with this and it has showed what I do like on R2. Basically it's a presenter who doesn't shout down at you, doesn't need a 'posse' of sycophantic 'yes men / women', or if they do have a sidekick, someone who they can work well with (look at Mark Radcliffe with Sally Lindsay this week as a good example!)
And there's no links to my kick-boys!! Let's hope we can agree on something, I'm sure we can, I'm really a peace loving guy!

Perhaps I was a little harsh and overzealous with my kick comment. And I agree that getting rid of Stuarts Saturday show was a ludicrous decision.

I think there should be more emphasis on positive and constructive comments about shows in that section. If somebody wants to slag off a program/presenter just stick to the rants section.

I'm sure things will pick up with time.

I do try and post positive comments as much as possible. I neglected to mention another presenter I have always had a lot of respect for (mind you it was late last night when I posted my previous message!) How could I miss out Bob Harris? Who I stay up as long as possible on Saturday nights to hear as much as possible. In the past it has been known for me to drop off in the chair (out of tiredness - certainly not boredom, I hasten to add!) then, on coming round again, find that the next show has started!!
Then, of course, there's the excellent Janice Long who was great on Saturday afternoons before Richard Allinson got the slot on a more permanent basis (one of the reasons I was reluctant to go out on Saturday afternoons) If I'm having a bout of insomnia, I do catch some of her midnight show. Shame we don't hear more of her in the daytime, filling in for holidaying regulars.
From what's left of the midweek evening speciality shows. I enjoy Paul Jones' Blues show and Bob Harris Country. Some of the artists championed on these shows (And Mike Harding's folk show) I've seen live when they've played locally after hearing them on these shows.
Lets mention Desmond Carrington's Tuesday show. A great eclectic mix of music, both old & sometimes modern. I know I've mentioned hearing the likes of Meat Loaf; Moody Blues & even Emerson, Lake & Palmer on his show in the past.

This forum should not descend into a place that encourages the same twenty-somethings who constantly regurgitate the same negative comments and complaints about Sarah Kennedy, Chris Evans, Russell Brand and Steve Wright.

These topics have been done-to-death on the BBC boards, which is why Sarah Kennedy topics are now prohibited on the Points of View board. Quite a few members of the Points of View board have given the two board Hosts - Peta and Lee - a damn good thrashing just because they have enforced the House Rules.

I have stepped away and kept out of the Sarah Kennedy fiascos on the Points of View board. They don't interest me anymore. I don't listen to Sarah Kennedy, therefore I have no reason to join in the vendetta against her.

Just to get back to the topic if I may.

I don't know if it might be an idea to add a couple of new sections like they used to have on Jezzas.
I'm not saying we should turn this site into a Jezzas clone but maybe adding sections might attract more visitors.
Perhaps adding a 'lifestyle and health' 'Entertainment' and a 'sports' section could move things along a bit, just a suggestion, I don't know what anyone else thinks about this.
