I like this part of the article.

Mr McGoldrick said the disqualification would cause "significant inconvenience"

She should have been more careful in built up areas.

So who's the weakest Link Now? Goodbye Wink Laughing

I dread losing my license. After 25 years of trouble-free driving I've already picked up my very first 6 points this year. One fine was for driving 50 through dual carriageway road works near Peterborough, the other was on the A45 dual carriageway along a stretch that is normally congested but one evening it wasn't and I sailed along at 50 thinking the limit was 60

Confused

I picked up my first 3 points since 1971 4years ago. 45 on a 40 section on New Years Day 2004

Isn't it 12 points before you get a ban?

Sorry to hear about these bad luck stories guys.

Is it a coincidence that all of us after years of trouble free motoring are suddendly racking up some points on our licences.

IMHO Gordon Brown/Labour Government have a lot to answer for-ie big brother watching you and all that.

Big Brother was watching us when the tories were in power, labour has just continued with it. If they ever change our national anthem from 'God Save The Queen', I think it should be Rockwell's 'Somebody's Watching Me' that takes over.

After decades without a blemish, I was done on the A69 at Haydon Bridge, near Hexham--41 in a 30 area. It was about midnight and I suppose I just let my concentration lapse.

What a pity Ms Robinson was able to plead guilty by letter--I'd love to have heard her being cross-examined, preferably in a Weakest Link manner.

Ian.

Ah, shame. She'll have to dip into her millions and hire a chauffeur. Bet they'll be queuing at her door Smile

How much more delicious (and effective) the punishment if the judge had been able to compel her to use public transport. Very Happy

Yes it is.

But after 25 years I get 6 points in the space of the last 3 months, I'm not getting any younger, I'm clearly going into auto-pilot and letting my mind drift from driving to goodness knows what, I could be banned before the year is out Confused

I think that highlights the flaw in penalty points. Drivers who are guilty of relatively minor infractions can pick up point very quickly if the rules are enforced in an arbitary manner. Does it really pose a risk if someone is driving 10 miles over the speed limit on a dual carriageway when it is empty & road conditions are good? Shouldn't the circumstances be taken into consideration?

Of course if too many people were to be put off the road there would be an outcry and somethings might change.

ern,

Looking at my circumstances I think driving at 50 where I was, on each occasion, although they were dual carriageways, I was creating a higher risk to pedestrians. The one at Peterborough was a remote stretch but it was road works and I suppose there may be workmen around. The other was a stretch of the A45 in the Solihull area, a residential area with pedestrians free to cross anywhere. I don't know how many accidents happen there but I know pedestrians have been killed on the A45 over the years in the Warwickshire and Coventry stretches.

So although I'm disappointed with what has happened I don't have an excuse. One problem I now have, since ending full employment, is a lot of my driving is now outside rush hours so my speed is no longer being limited by the weight of traffic. I need to be more attentive of signs and cameras.

Sad

I have a clean licence but I nearly lost it back in the 70s when I was in my twenties.
I quickly picked up two endorsements when it was obvious the local traffic cops didn't approve of either me or my tatty old Zephyr Mk3 Estate.. maybe it was my long hair, devilish good looks or the large Frank Zappa portrait on the bonnet? Laughing
I stopped on the zig zags next to a pedestrian crossing just long enough to drop my sister off outside a local Cinema and was pounced on by 3 coppers leaping out from an unmarked car and later, turning left at a signal which was on yellow.. this time a jam sandwich stopped me and said it was red.
There were many more encounters but the last resort was an inspection of my car outside my place at about 6 in the morning. They were just looking for an excuse but it was all legal.
I had a word with a County Councillor friend and my harassment stopped! Razz
I've never been done for speeding though...

I got my licence in 1987 and three years ago I got 3 points forgetting about the camera I pass every morning to go to work. Laughing Just a second of madness.

Hopefully after Anne's 6 month automatic ban she will look whilst driving, because there are cameras all over the place and even signposts starting this. The Signposts don't say there is a free standing camera, sometimes there are random mobile camera's. This depends how PC Plod is feeling on the day. Laughing

Any chance her ban can be extended to our TV screens-she is dreadful/up her herself.

If she was a Mars Bar she would end up eating herself I'm sure.

Well I like her.. Razz I agree with most of her supposedly sarky comments she makes when being interviewed and, most of her remarks on The Weakest Link too!
To me, she's a professional and deserves respect. Wink
