6 music boards are also in pre-mod. I wonder if it's too much to hope that she takes Evans & Lamb (6 music) with her & let's throw Wright in for good measure. Seriously though, I hope whoever succeeds her will employ proper bona fide DJs rather than 'celebs' / comedians playing at being DJs.

Apparently he's suspended for 12 weeks without pay. Somehow I don't think that will turn him into a Big Issue seller

It’s enormously difficult for any organisation to recover from the loss of a great leader; R2 will struggle (internally) over the coming months to get over this sad day.
The difference between men and women in positions of leadership, is that women are not afraid to fail: it is that courage which makes their successes so much better than the weak, safe “afraid to fail options” delivered by their male contemporises.

The gender of the controller doesn't matter to me, if it had been a man who did to Radio 2 & 6 music what Lesley Douglas did, I would have been just as unhappy & fed up.

BTW who is that idiot controller of Radio 1 Newsbeat who was spouting off? He thought Brand Hillarious & the outrage over it "a fuss about nothing"
He also called Andrew Sachs, who even Russell brand has said is 2a great, great comic actor", a "stupid old man"

| I think Evans will stay where he is. I don't think they will put him on mornings. Whatever one might think about him, he in fairness has made a success of the Drivetime show and has matured dramatically and it is a family show that causes no offence. |

Yes and we can all once again live in our little cottages with roses in the garden, sipping tea whilst sat listening to the birds singing.
Oh to return to the halcyon days of Radio 2 when hardly anyone listened

Well, I never thought I'd see the day...
...and yet, I still have a strange feeling, now that Lesley's actually gone. Love her or loathe her, she was mighty successful, and I wish her the best of luck in her future roles. I hope that in amongst all this talk on TV news and in the papers about the future of the BBC (edginess, licence fee, salaries, etc.) I hope the issue of Radio 2 itself, as we constantly argue on here, is not forgotten. I doubt whoever comes in as next controller will change things much, but they should take a long hard look at this station and reinforce its many positive values that, as we here have argued, have perhaps been forgotten on occasions in search of new 'talent' and yoof audiences. As a younger listener (22 yrs old) I enjoy much of the 'older' shows on this station, and have loathed the constant coverage in this debacle of young people seemingly all supporting Brand and Ross. I certainly didn't.
On another note, did anyone see News at Ten tonight? Talking to Chris Evans after his show tonight - he was almost in tears now that Lesley's gone. I did like the question to him 'Will you leave the station now after all this?' to which he defiantly replied 'No!' Almost got my hopes up there |

Oh, I strongly suspect that Chris Evans is living on borrowed time. No doubt they'll dig up Jimmy Young and Ed Stewart, bring Johnny Walker back to drive time and the last three years can all be put down to some bad nightmare
The downside to that, of course is that as Radio Two's viewing share would go through the floor as the younger audience goes back to whence they came and the new guy or gal wouldn't last very long

It's not all about ratings as this debacle has shown. However with Brand removed I can see the Saturday ratings rise as people don't reach for the off switch at 9pm.

There's a fundamental flaw in your attitudes to Radio 2 sheltster, numbers of listeners is not important. I'd rather the 7 million daytime listeners tuned into commercial stations and the other 5 million listeners were listening to quality programmes and quality varied music, but really I'm not that selfish. Just vary the music daytime and I might tune in.

Yes I saw it, there were more tears on the ITV interview than the BBC one..
Even though I continue to dislike Chris Evans' style and embrace the off switch, he does seem a cut above Messrs Brand and Ross. I beleieve he's learn't his lesson.
From the tiny grain of knowledge I have of Lesley Douglas, I can't see that everybody loved her at Radio 2 and I'd guess the tears shed by Chris were for mainly personal reasons.

As I said elsewhere, I've never listened to the Russell Brand Show as I have better things to do on a Saturday evening (actually the wife makes me watch the X Factor  ) but I do like Russell Brand's humour. I just find him hilarious, but I agree that he is not to everyone's taste.
I'm not sure what his listening figures were - I've read about 400,000 and I'd be amazed if any show attracted significantly more than that in the time slot

Out of Radio Two's daytime schedule I like Terry Wogan, Ken Bruce, Steve Wright and Chris Evans and if I am in the car I will always listen to them. When Jeremy Vine is on, I usually listen to my Elvis / Johnny Cash CDs or listen to Five Live or Real Radio.
It is about listeners though as Lesley Douglas' replacement won't last long if she/he doesn't maintain R2s place as the Nations favourite station

Radio 2's remit is to compliment the commercial stations, not compete so whether it's 5 million or 12 million listeners should not be important, but I think you may be right and a high level of bland programming will continue in the schedule.
By the way my missus went to bed early because I wanted to watch Casino Royale again on Sky 312. I had been disappointed with it at the cinema but now I'm just realising what a fine movie it really is !!

My first comment was "Ding Dong, the witch.." so had to laugh when it was one of the first comments on this thread!
It's no use pretending that I'm not glad that LD has gone, I wish her well elsewhere but cannot forgive what she has done to Radio 2. Personally, I think she should have resigned several days ago when the brouhaha first erupted, and if Ross has any decency in him, he will consider his position at the BBC very carefully now.
The questions I would like answered are : why did anyone think Brand was the right person for Radio 2 in the first place; and will Jonathan Ross EVER grow up? I think it was Andrew Billen in The Times who wrote that Ross, at 48, is in grave danger of being perceived as little more than a dirty old man.

As much as I enjoyed the JY programme as much for its content as its presenter, it was time for him to go when he did.
