I wonder whilst the recession is happening around us and people losing their jobs will they move where jobs are and boost the economy in certain areas where unemployment is high? Only if Jobs are available!! |

How can they afford to move when no one is able to sell their house?

I doubt it Mark, as if you have no job and a mortgage how can you afford to rent as well?

Where are these jobs anyway? The South East is worst hit this time & there never were many jobs up North at the best of times _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

High employment in some areas are caused by people being too picky. |

I guess Mark is referring to some unemployed folk who won't take low paid jobs in services, cleaning, security, B&Q etc
I graduated in 1975 when jobs were scarce in Scotland so, as Thatcher would have said later on, got on my bike, and took a job in England. At that time of course I had nothing, well I think I had about 100 quid, not even a car. It was quite common then for young folks to move like that, probably still is. I shared rented houses with similar lads for six years till the love of my life arrived and wondered why I hadn't saved anything in 6 years!!
I suppose SHE saved ME Not looked back since.
But I wouldn't fancy having to move if I had a mortgage and small kids and no job, and it would look bleak if jobs available paid say half the wages.
That did happen to a few of my colleagues about three years ago. The blow was cushioned by redundancy money but they had been earning 30k and have ended up, in their 50s, in low paid jobs.

You'll perhaps have guessed from my comments over a period that I moved quite a bit in my youth, in order to gain work promotion--Scotland, Chester area, Margate, Coventry (a very happy stay) and Northumberland. I came to God's own country in 1976, intending to stay for about two or three years, and am somehow still here. I can't see me wanting to move residence again now but still visit Chester when time permits and have been back to Margate and Coventry once each in the last few years.
