Today February 3rd 2009 marks fifty years since the 'plane crash that took the lives of Buddy, Ritchie, The Bopper and the pilot Roger Petersen. I read a good article recently that said that Buddy's music introduced melody to the beat of rock'n'roll and that is why his songs have remained popular for so long. Last year I met and spoke to Tommy Allsup who gave up his place on the 'plane to Ritchie. Waylon Jennings famously swopped places wth Ritchie Valens and went on to become one of the greats in Country Music. The Radio 2 programme that was narrated by Steve Harley about Buddy last Saturday was excellent. The Arena programme and the film with Gary Busey are being shown on TV today. Rock on, Buddy, Ritchie and Bopper! |

Don't forget that Maria Elena Holly (Buddy's widow) is on R2 this Saturday, 7-8pm.
