I haven't been on here as much as usual just recently because, in addition to all the usual activites, I've been involved in setting up Tynedale FM, which is on a one month temporary licence from 27 November for now but which of course we all hope will become permanent later.
I'm hoping to do a little broadcasting later in the month but am also heading up the team of admin volunteers and, boy, is some work coming our way! But I seem to have a very good, reliable team and I'm sure we'll get there.
If you fancy a listen online, it's on tynedalefm.org. Might be better to wait till tomorrow morning, as we're only on test transmissions till then.

Good luck with that! Hope all goes well.
And when you've finished setting that up, there's a huge opportunity over here on the Costa Blanca for a professional local radio station. Currently we alternate between Bay Radio and Coast FM whilst in the car. The former seems to be mostly taped music, (which frequently runs out, giving way to long silences) and the latter features a female presenter to whom, frankly, I wouldn't give a job answering the telephone, so appalling is her delivery.
Thank goodness we can get Radio 2 via satellite and internet! Makes even Chris Evans sound great. |

Congratulations Ian and team - bookmarked and will listen once you get under way. Got to be better than the current independent alternatives here, Metro or Century.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Sounds an interesting mix so far but the online service sounds very noisy, crackly and a bit distorted. |

Good luck with your venture Ian.
There is a community station fairly close to us just starting this week so I wonder if all the licences were given on the same day?

Good luck with this, Ian.
There only seems to be a 30-second loop running at the moment, but I shall keep an ear out. _________________ Ron |

Thanks for all the good wishes.
The station is still running, despite some frayed nerves, and I did my first stint on air yesterday!
I had originally intended to do a classical music programme but a very keen young volunteer has expressed a wish to do this. So I suggested doing a 50s/60s/70s show and they bit my hand off! It went out from 4 to 6 yesterday afternoon and I hope to do the same time slot next Tuesday.
Many other really gifted presenters are beginning to emerge, which should augur well for future licence applications.

Our temporary licence expires tomorrow but, after stopping to draw breath and remind our families who we are, we hope to be back early next year. Licence conditions may mean that we're online only to start with but watch this space.
It's been an unbeatable month and I'm thrilled at the way such a good team has gelled together.

Could you simply continue on the internet, do you need a licence for that ?
I'm glad it all went well. |

Yes, in the short term that's what we may well do.
But a five-year licence is the longer-term aim.
Thanks for your comments.

Hello Ian,
I read the article in the on-line version of the Courant today - were you in the photo? _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Thanks, Cherskiy.
I'm not on the photo in the Courant.
If you want to see me (for whatever reason!), my mugshot and one or two details are now on tynedalefm.org. I'm not currently into it but it'll probably be under presenters or shows.
Best wishes.

We're back on air!
Tynedale FM resumed broadcasting on Saturday--online only at present. Try tynedalefm.org. I'll be doing a 50s/60s/70s show from 3 to 5pm on Thursdays, commencing 26 Feb.

I am sort of taking it easy but hope to be back at work next week and hence able to do my show.
