Really think this show is just fantastic-JW is doing a great job as host.
Well done Radio 2 for bringing this show back after it was dropped when Steve Harley hosted it. |

I prefered it when Steve Harley fronted it. Johnnie just doesn't sound right in the slot - he sounds like he's in a strait-jacket.

Johnnie Walker presented a similar format on Radio 1 in the 1970s, which is why he was chosen to present Sounds of the Seventis on Radio 2. I think he is the right man for the job. I was not keen on Steve Harley as he prattled on too much. |

I used to listen to Johnnie Walker's show on R1 at lunchtimes avidly and it was always a good listen. However, there's an air of "Here's what we have to offer you, Johnnie, so take it or leave it" about the whole thing.
Personally, I'd be happy if he were handed the Breakfast slot regularly as of tomorrow - the Togmeister is evidently bored.

I didn't like the way we were made to expect something by Gordon Giltrap and he played 'Swing Your Daddy' by Jim GILSTRAP instead!
Also with Captain & Tenille, there was an air of 'play the only track we have!' when the usual Love Will Keep Us Together was on rather than Can't Stop Dancing, which was requested.

If they're going to pre record Sounds of the Seventies then I wish they would take care over the broadcast of the recording.
There was a longer gap than I would expect Johnnie to leave after the travel news at the end of the 3pm news. Later, Johnnie trailed something later in the programme "...after this!". There was then a gap of several seconds before a trail for Paul O'Grady was played.
And no comment from Johnnie. If there's one presenter on Radio 2 who would comment on his own pauses, it's Johnnie.
So what's going on? A technician with short fingers sitting too far from the desk??

Most of this stuff is server-driven these days, so timecode in/out points might have been logged wrongly.
I agree with you about the "feel" of the show though. It's not quite right. Shame really, because Johnnie's nothing less than great on Breakfast. Live radio is definitely where's it's at for him.

I'm just listening via the computer to last weeks show and thoroughly enjoying it. Unfortunately we were both working last Sunday, so no no-one at home to record it. The same will apply tomorrow, shame!

I recall there being a rubbish shortened radio edit of that song that somehow got through the net back in the 70s, so perhaps that was the one that was played. When Argent performed it on tour it lasted for ages with big solos in the middle, etc. Even the proper radio edit was a lot shorter.

Just listening to one we recorded earlier, why has Mrs Thatcher gone from the opening sequence? I liked that bit!
