|
|
TV and Radio presenter Richard Bacon is covering for Jeremy Vine. He's well known from the days at Blue Peter, Big Breakfast and various other TV projects which included the Wright stuff on Five. He briefly presented the Drive Home show on Capital Radio London and was heard on XFM. He currently presents a show on Five Live and has been rumored being lined up to take over from Simon Mayo when he moves to Radio 2 Drivetime show.
Take a listen as he covers from Monday 5th October. |

The question does arise as to how long JV will do the lunchtime show for.
No one minds holidays but days here and there for Panorama etc. are a different matter. Seems he cannot break away from his BBC current affairs past. Not sure how long R2 management will put up with this although they seem content at present to let him do it. Perhaps the new controller has had more important things on his mind. Surely however the secret of maintaining audience figures is to have a regular presenter -
and not give the listeners the excuse to "shop around" ? |

Richard Bacon is one of my least favourite broadcasters ever. The bloke's a smug, self-satisfied, obnoxious idiot who's only in work because of his notorious Blue Peter incident.
I will not be listening. |

Not all time off are Holidays.
He was actually returning from a weekend away in Rome the other Monday that is why Matthew Bannister was sitting in. I think most of Panorama shows are done in some of his time off and not all clarified as a Holiday. It does count for a lot of other presenters on the Station. Dermot O'leary takes the odd Saturday off, not because it's a holiday it's for his TV commitments. Then they take Holidays when there is spare time. I'm sure this is written in there contracts. |

Hope he mentions Blue Peter then, otherwise we won't know if Jeremy's off or not. |

He wasn't in Rome Mark, but Berlin.
It was to make a documentary on the Fall of the Berlin Wall for R2 and his show will come live from Berlin on the 20th anniversary in November.
Don't forget he also does Eggheads. JY used to have a fair amount of holidays........... usually 3 week stints as well.

Maybe Richard is been lined up for something big on Five Live, so Bob they are getting him used to daytime listeners. |

I'm impressed with him for his first day at Radio 2. I've seen him on Wright Stuff on Five doing similar topics and good. |

I don't think Sarah Jarvis was Mark............
I can't see what the difference doing current affairs on R2 was from doing it on 5??

Wasn't for me. At times I couldn't spot the difference between the interviewer and interviewee. Didn't seem to have the same authority as the other stand-ins. _________________ Minx

I noticed that too Helen, though I didn't think Bacon was any more irritating towards his guests than Vine usually is. |

Hi Johnump,
Glad it's not just me thinking that! He's out of his depth, and it's sounding very disjointed. I'm not saying I could do any better but then I'm not paid to be a broadcaster.

Vine is streets ahead (I'm not being biased either), he's just not professional IMHO.

Well let Five Live listeners put up with him, why should R2 be dumped with trainees?? We pay the licence fee to have professionals.
I hated it when I had the work experience people in....... my boss was always extra nice to me in the run up to their arrival!

He's done loads of daytime stuff on 5 Live! When standing in for Victoria Derbyshire he famously told off an official in a flooded town for being daft for building a water treatment plant right next to the river. |

Doesn't show in his efforts so far this week though Ian. I thought he was terrible today.

Hey, I know it doesn't show - he's useless. The flooding incident is infamous because he launched a tirade against some hapless official asking "why on earth did you build a water treatment plant next to the river?" only to be told "er, because that's where the water is." Cue embarrassed silence. |

I like that Rachel! I think you're thinking of Melvyn Hayes. I wonder if he's any relation. Why don't they show It Ain't Arf Hot Mum! these days? It was a good series. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |
