Similar bufoons were advising Churchill that it would be impossible to defeat Hitler. Churchill got rid of them & put real men in their place. Gusse what? we defeated Hitler |

Personally, I think he's right. You can't eradicate an ideology with arms. And, of course, you have to find the target - so where, exactly, is this bloke Al Queda? He could be next door, or in the flat over over the chip shop, or even in a mosque in the Lebanon. Not easy when you can't see the target. |

I heard this Colonel Blimp on the radio. He was going on about how the last government didn't get it, but this government do. "Oh, yes, Cameron's the chap!" he said
An ideology CAN be defeated in war. Nazism was thoroughly defeated in WWII. There may be a few tiny groups around today who subscrtibe to the Nazi ideolgy, but essentially the ideology died as any sort of force when the Axis powers were defeated.
The particular Pol Pott brand of Maoism was defeated when pol Pott was ousted from Cambodia (Kampuchea)
There are numerous redundant ideologies which could fill a museum of defeated ideologies.
In Germany in the 1930's just about every other German subscribed to Nazi ideology. Today you would have great difficulty finding a German who does
Once Al Quaida is defeated, the supporters of Islamist ideologies will fade away. |

Furthermore, fads like Al Quaida & Islamist militancy burn themselves out- or blow themselves up. You will notice that there have been no suicide bombers blowing up Israeli schools, busses & Pizerria's in the last half decade. This is because paymaster Saddam Hussein is gone. Without the paymaster, all the promises of a thousand virgins will not tempt young men to blow themseves up
Cut off the head & the beast is dead. However many supporters Al Quaida may have (& it is fewer than you think) once the organization & its paymasters are defeated these folloewrs will no more be Al Quaida, just people getting back to real life & pretending their flirtation with fanaticism had never happened |
