Reading about the disintegrating jeans (Q&T Zone) and then something in the paper yesterday highlighted a major complaint (for me anyway) about jeans, trousers etc today - shrinking pockets.

Keys, wallet, mobile phone, credit/loyalty cards, loose change - stuff those into the pockets and you feel as if you're on your way to an appointment at High Noon, and look as if you've grown a pair of handles - not so much love as bank vault.

Perhaps not such a problem in winter - we'll use our jacket pockets and add such luxuries as tissues and mints. But in a British shirt-sleeve and shorts summer?

It's all right for women with their handbags that seem to open up and contain an Aladdin's Cave of stuff for all eventualities. As a rule all we are offered are little purse things you attach to a belt, sold in outdoor shops like Millets and Yeomans. It's either that or an industrial-strength rucsack you sling onto your back, which turns any joyful outing into a yomp.

Men in some European countries, particularly the latin ones, have taken to carrying bags not unlike the ladies. Might this catch on here - yesterday's Independent gave us ten of the best men's bags

The first one is actually a rucsack, and for eight out of the ten the first phrase that comes to mind is Arkwright's "How much???" - they make my wife's penchant for those Radley bags with the dog tag look positively frugal.

Which do you fancy? (and ladies - which would you like to see your man with?)

From a female point of view I quite like number 6 but not at that price Shocked number 4 looks like a ladies handbag...

Have a look at this site, much better!

I woudn't be seen dead with a manbag carrying man. OMG! Some of those are way to girlie for any man and one of them is just over the top "Rupert". Having something to put things in is the fundamental reason for men getting married. Men simply put those important things in their wives' handbags. Problem solved. Single men, and husbands out on their own( if they're allowed), need carry nothing more than a small wallet, with a debit card, perhaps a few notes, and a list of what they've been sent out for, squeezed into their back pocket.

I found a pair of GREAT jeans with 2 overlaping pockets each side so that's 4 fabulous front pockets, for change, wallet, keys, mobile phone and room for chewing gum, lozenges, antacid, paracetemol or whatever medication I'm on! My hankie goers in a backpocket now. Smile

The name Jack Moody 15 a pair, thick material, lots of good stitching.

There is also a zipped mobile phone pocket half way down my leg, handy if you are sitting in the pub

I was of course teasing in my earlier post, men should be wild, free spontaneous and gentle but firm... I'm still not so sure about manbags though, maybe one of those macho utility belts is the answer - a couple of grenades, a swiss army knife, perhaps a spare gallon of petrol.. you know, man stuff.... Smile
