It's been a long, old week of waiting and hoping.

For me, politically, this is the best day in years.

And for me too. Now the UK needs to do the same when the opportunity comes.

The whole world saw what Trump did and know he was guilty as hell but will everyone realise that the reason for his acquittal was a constitutional technicality? Will they think his behaviour was bad but acceptable? What a message about American democracy to send out.

It does seem ridiculous when the vote on the constitutionality of holding the trial in the first place was won by a majority.

However, I believe Trump's problems in the courts are about to begin. Mitch McConnell blasted his behaviour, said he was guilty but voted to acquit and hinted that his incitement to insurrection may well be tried in a federal or state court.

Also there is the case being prepared against him for trying to bully election officials in Georgia to "find votes" for him, plus there are the possible financial misdemeanours in various of his businesses. Bring 'em on, I say!

Couldn't agree more,Eileen.

From the very beginning and the infamous, lewd Hollywood Tapes I thought he was finished before he started but I hadn't reckoned that 70+ million Americans would seemingly follow this disgrace of a human being to the ends of the earth - such is their adulation of him. From then on he proceeded to drag a great democracy down to the very depths. He has disgusted me on a daily basis during his Presidency. If there is any justice in this world he will end up in prison taking his equally disgusting family with him.

Here we go:

A Democratic congressman has accused Donald Trump and his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani of conspiring and inciting the deadly insurrection on the US Capitol on 6 January, in a federal lawsuit filed on Tuesday.

Bennie Thompson, a Democrat and chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, filed the suit in a federal court in Washington DC under a Reconstruction-era law known as the Ku Klux Klan Act, according to the Associated Press.
