Did anyone see the interview this morning?

He actually came across pretty well - manic, shouty-ness dialled right back down. Based on the interview - and only on the interview - I'd like to believe that he'll do a good enough job, and will cater for the variety of listeners that TW did, without offending them.

Time will tell, though.

No I didn't see the interview. Sounds like one last charm/offensive (take your pick) to try to get listeners to his breakfast show. I won't bother listening as his voice hurts my ears. Rolling Eyes

Well I watched this earlier.

Chris Evans was excellent-thoughtful in his answers and articulated his plans/ideas for the show very well. He admitted very clearly that the music played is the most important aspect of the show.

Like millions of others in the UK really looking forward to the start of the Evans Era tomorrow.

Good luck Chris.

If they have to put him & his mugshot everywhere in order to drum up support, doesn't that mean they are afraid that they have made a mistake? Surely real talent sells itself. How many other Radio 2 jocks have had that ammount of publicity ahead of a new show? Thankfully my shift pattern precludes my listening to him.

If that's the case then the show doesn't need a celebrity, just a music-loving jock with a friendly morning voice....

And knowing Evans, he will talk all over the music anyway........

I think Chris Evans will be excellent as the breakfast show host.

Looking forward to hearing him.

As I said, based on the interview, he came across as quite mild-mannered, intelligent and reiterating the charm offensive we've noted recently. If you took that in isolation, then there'd be little cause for worry.

However, I (and most of the posters on this thread, seemingly) just wonder when the wheels are going to come off.... Confused

Also, he mentioned "Resurrection Song" as being the first thing he'd play tomorrow morning.... I've just watched ten seconds on Google Videos of Mark Lanegan not only murdering it, but burying it and then stomping all over its grave, ten seconds being all I could stand. Good grief. Rolling Eyes

If he didn't sort himself out then he wouldn't have got Breakfast or onto Radio 2. I wonder how many specialists helped him through this depression etc? Laughing Also Money does help

He is everywhere, there is no escape. The BBC must be very worried to mount such a huge charm offensive. The like of which has never been seen before! Rolling Eyes

I think Chris was very good on Drivetime even though I would have preferred Johnnie to have carried on.
A lot of people seem to hate his shows even though they never listen to them which I find a little strange.
As long as he continues to play stuff like the Beatles and Kinks as he did on the Drivetime shows and not slip into the Gary Bones type of music then it'll be a thumbs up from me.

I don't listen to him Gazmando because I can't stand his voice full stop. I want to throw things at the radio if I can't get to it to turn it off. Sorry but I can't help it. Something to do with its pitch.

I won't be listening tomorrow or until he has a holiday and it will depend who sits in if I do listen then. you get used to things you like not things you don't.

I didn't see the interview.
But I have been pleasantly surprised by the radio 2 era Chris. Over the past few years, he has proved himself as a presenter- he just went a bit bonkers on a couple of ocasions. If he starts getting a bit shouty, I hope his producer will have a quiet word in his ear. I think he will do very well

I normally watch this programme and when Evans came off I swore and turned it over, he seems to be on everything at the moment, sick to death of it.

Eclectic? Mika, Rolling Stones, Glen Campbell, Paolo Nutini, Seekers, Dionne Bromfield, Ocean Colour Scene, Monkees. I must go and look up "eclectic" again.

Well, it's a step beyond the usual radio 2 playlist. Nice to hear some older stuff in the mix

Clive,

Did you never listen to Wogan? He played some older things.

At that time of day the presenter is I think more important than the music and for me life is too short to listen to one you don't like.

Yes I totally agree with you H. Where to tune in though, that is the question?

I totally agree, helen. And I admired Wogan for the way he championed some very good artistes- Beth Nielson Chapman, for one.
But there was too much chatting & long jokes in that show for me. But really, Dedicote mostly drove me away from that show.
I think Chris just needs a good producer who can tell him to calm down when he gets too excited. The change i'm happiest with is that Moira has replaced Dedicote! Cool
I think Chris should employ Terry as musical advisor. He could point him in the way of some great new singers

Clive,

Sorry if I came over a bit strong about ever listening to Wogan, I wasn't sure if you did or not.

Agree about a musical advisor in a producer, although I think they are probably too young to have any decent indepth musical knowledge. That's the problem when you give the jobs to people under the age remit for a station. They just don't have the experience, can't have as they aren't old enough to have gained it that way.

Sorry for sounding like an old fogey but as far as producers are concerned I think R2 have a problem.

I wasn't too fond of him either, much preferred the rapport between Boggy and Wogan.

Deadly tended to take over I found, I'm sure he's a nice enough chap and all that but I found him rather annoying.

Boggy I love though, so pleased to hear he will be joining Terry on his Sunday show.

Agreed on that point - I'm pleased for Moira, just sorry that Deadly is set to ruin Sarah's show, for it won't be long until his "part" gets bigger.

He already ruins the Lotto and associated quiz, he just can't help himself.

Why does someone standing there on the show have to write the winning numbers down on a piece of paper? Rolling Eyes
Are those involved in the show allowed to play the lottery too?
If they are, then imagine one of them screaming 'I've won!' Then running off the set! Laughing

H, if that's true, then yippee! Now that he has to start "work" at 5, I imagine he'd rather not be up till that hour on a Wednesday, if it is in fact live.

It's always puzzled me why they have to have a Lottery "show" at all - we just need to know the numbers without paying some zzzz list celeb to front a pointless programme.

I agree about the need for a Lottery show, its a sort of advertising for it.

I heard that Joe Pasquale was to take over. Wasn't sure if it was an April Fool or not............ Wink

I think the original thought may have been that the public might need an encouragement to do the lottery (as if the British ever needed incitement to gamble, and as if a jackpot of £4+m was not enough) and a light entertainment show or quiz built around the draw would help.

They've all been pretty feeble, and I can't see Joe Pasquale breaking the mould (lor', I hope that's an early April Fool)

Joe might have to take a 'helium balloon' break to maintain his 'squeaky clean' voice when asking the questions.

'Am I to take that as your FINAL ANSWER? EXCUSE ME... Ah that's better! Where was I?'

Ah just to clarify Joe Pasquale was to take over the Voice of the Balls role not to be presenting, as far as I can remember.
