MM's death at quite a young age is a tragedy for his family and I send them my sympathy--but did anyone else think that JV's tribute yesterday was rather OTT? Launching punk on to the world isn't exactly something to eulogise.

I was into 70s Prog Rock when the Sex Pistols exploded on the scene. I saw them once (although I wasn't in much of a state to remember) and I have to say the whole punk phenomenon was one that was a shot in the arm for music in much the same way that rock 'n roll was in the 50s.
I also think that "God Save The Queen" by the Pistols is quite possibly my favourite single of all time. The energy coming out of the grooves of that 45 is still as raw as ever. Great stuff.

I don't suppose we'll ever reach consensus on this issue but I'm grateful to you both for expressing a contrary view to mine without getting personal. That's what boards like this are for.
