I can't understand why R2 need to do this. We've known for a long time that JR is going and GN is taking over. Why not a straight transition?

PK is not for me. I'm not a great fan of his stand up and I would even go so far as to agree with what Simon Amstell said about him on Buzzcocks.

I don't think I've heard him on radio, but I remember him having a late night Friday show and was okay sometimes.

It's not a slot I listen to religiously but the radio usually gets left on in the kitchen and if I'm there I listen until it starts to annoy me then it gets turned off.

I've got mixed feelings about him. Sometimes I think he's Ok, other times.... I can take him or leave him.

Bit like Radio 2 these days. Sad

I think Kielty's pretty rubbish but at least he's bearable when covering for Alan Carr

(Yep, the very definition of "damned with faint praise")

I would guess that even though Ross is leaving, the show is still being made by Ross's agency until October, so they've got another of their acts in to cover until then.

I can't stand him... it's a pity Mark Lamarr couldn't have done the job.
Luckily, I have plenty of recordings to catch up on... Razz

Radio 2 hasn't got Saturdays covered at all, Mark.

I've got the answer. Rick Wakeman and David Jensen on Planet Rock, Saturdays 10.00am-1.00pm.

Beats all the pathetic Radio 2 rubbish hands down. Simples.

I don't mind Patrick Kielty being in the 10-1 slot on Saturdays but it's unlikely that I shall change my habit of switching to Classic FM once SOTS is finished.

Ian.

Did I hear Jonathan Ross admit to wishing he was staying on at the BBC this morning? a caller said she would miss him on the show and he said something along the lines of how he would love to "hang around a lot longer believe me"
Maybe he was given a push?

I got a severe private reprimand from an un-named admin on the BBC R2MB for suggesting this and I was told in no uncertain terms to shut up.

All I was doing was quoting an article in the Guardian which reported that the BBC's Director General, Mark Thompson, had decreed very soon after the "Sachsgate" affair that Ross' contract would renewed "over my dead body". So, if the report is correct, Thompson wanted to get shot of the wildcard that was Ross but couldn't do so without having to pay a large contract severance, so decided to wait until the contract expired.

The BBC admins said they removed my post (in which I pretty much stated the above) because it was potentially libellous. I pointed out that I was merely quoting references that had been printed in the Guardian newspaper, and were therefore already in the public domain and had remained unchallenged by Ross and his entourage.

They never replied.

I believe that Ross made an announcement that he was leaving the BBC after his contract expired as a damage-limitation exercise (in a manner that would be advised by the likes of Max Clifford) on the grounds that it would be much more damaging (to his career) for the BBC to announce that they weren't going to be renewing his contract. Everybody in the business knows the true story, however.

OK, Wossy........... sue me!

Cool

PS: Wossy said a few months back that he can't wait to leave the BBC. Funny that, because I can't wait for him to leave the BBC either. Smile

Jonathan's made it perfectly clear on a number of occasions that it isn't wholly his idea to leave. I'll miss him.

Which could well prove that the BBC's Press Office has been spinning a good yarn...............
