Live Aid celebrates 25 years this week. Richard Skinner was the first person to be heard announcing the show.

Were you there?

Do you have some memories?

Did you watch it?

I was 15 years old and watched the whole event. It was sad watching the starving kids whilst Cars - Drive was playing.

This is the how I remember that day, as told on the Radio 2 & 6 music message boards:

It was a Saturday, one of only a few sunny days in an otherwise damp & dismal summer, although even that night it thundered and I had my first go at photographing lightning with some degree of success! I also remember the big build-up through that morning. 'The novice's guide to surviving Live Aid' or words to that effect, on the preceding Radio 1 show (was it Dave Lee Travis?) One of the few good things in an otherwise 'Annis Horriblis' for me.
Of course, I do also remember Phil Collins performing first in London and then jetting over to the American gig by Concorde (after first having been flown to Heathrow by helicopter) Of course, such an exercise couldn't be repeated if a similar gig were to be staged nowadays!

I remember the day like it was yesterday. I remember having to run round to a neighbour's house to help him to set up his stereo such that he had audio from Radio 1 (which in turn had hijacked Radio 2's VHF stereo frequency due to not having stereo of its own yet) and get the full stereo spread with the TV in the middle.

I also remember that it was a hot day.

I didn't record the event on the day but I do still have the edited show on VHS, which was 1 hour long, and which was shown a day or two later.

A friend of mine was a BBC TV camera assistant on the day and he said later that the whole production was a complete bodge-job from beginning to end!!!

Most of the music on the day was pretty average, actually, not helped by anarchic stage production.

I remember watching bits of it, probably the later part. I was working early shift at the airport and it was hot! I think I recorded part of it but I don't think it survived.

I watched it from beginning to end and loved all - well most Wink

- of it - it was an amazing day - a friend of mine was over from Australia and she came round to watch it with us.

I was caught up in the day and it was a once in a lifetime event that will stay with me forever.....Phil Collins starting out over here then flying over the America in a specially chartered Concorde flight ( these were the days before carbon footprints were words in the vocabulary,remember ... well mine anyway) to be in the US show ....terrific

The only person that I can remember being disappointed in was Bob Dylan ..I adore the man but his vocals that day were excruciatingly bad and all over the place..... think I've read since he was having problems round that time...

Queen were fantastic ....what a showman Fredie Mercury was

I did have most of it on tape but think it's been recorded over over the intervening years... Sad

We were decorating and had LA on the TV.

It was quite a grey day in Northumberland and we were envious of the crowds at Wembley Stadium basking in summer sunshine.

Yess, the footage that accompanied the Cars' Drive has stayed with me since.

I missed it completely as we were travelling home from a family holiday in Co Galway that day!

I do have a special copy of the original Band Aid single - signed by both Bob Geldof and Midge Ure! Bob's signature is slightly difficult to see but it's slightly to the right of Midge's
