Don't know if you'll see this Beet - I'm sure you'd know in a trice what it is. Can anyone identify this piece of music for me:
It starts at 05.35 and runs right to the end of the clip.
Many thanks

It is indeed. I often get weird looks from other drivers when I'm stopped at traffic lights and Enigma Variations is blasting out of the car stereo. Trouble is, you just can't play it quietly!!! |

It's a wonderful piece and to me typifies what is best about Britain
I love all Elgar's music without exception my favourite probably being the classic Cello Concerto really made famous by Jacqueline Du Pre not long before her untimely death
It is in my view still the best recording of this piece and should be compulsory listening for everyone |

Thanks for the replies folks. For some reason I thought it was Vaughan Williams and was on youtube for a couple of hours trying to find that particular piece. I never even thought of Elgar. Classical music is not my strong point, but the older I get the more I find myself wanting to discover more.
It's amazing how many pieces of music are familiar to us, but we have no clue what they are called or who they are by. As I worked my way through the Vaughan Williams I kept thinking, 'I know this' and 'I know that'. I suppose film scores and advertisements, background music down the decades and so on ... and we get to know them, can hum them, but not a clue what it is.
I am fortunate in that the town I live in has its own Symphony Orchestra and I just found out they are playing the Enigma Variations at the Remembrance Day concert next month, so I am going to get myself a ticket. I shall probably blub like a baby.
Once again, many thanks. |
