I see the BBC have been promoting the Beatles again as news...
but who is going to pay £18 to download an album when you can buy the CD for £9 ?

It's news because Beatles material has never been available online from proper sources like itunes.
Watch them get to number 1 on a regular basis when they do. _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

Yes, it's £17.99 for the double albums (White, Red, Blue and Past Masters) and £10.99 for the single ones. That compares with the CDs at Amazon at £12.99 for the doubles (for some reason the Red one is £13.99) and £7.99 for the single ones. _________________ Ron |

I rarely buy music on CD any more. I just don't want the clutter.
Let's not forget that there's now a whole generation of people who don't buy their music on physical media and who now rely on the iTunes Store to buy downloads instead. To date, they haven't had the opportunity to buy Beatles material but as from today they do.
What's good about this is that there will be many, many younger people who will sample Beatles music - either track by track or as a complete "album" - for the first time and who stand a good chance of being knokced out by it.
That's a good thing and, as undiscovered points out, it has the potential for re-shaping music sales statistics for some time to come. Let's face it, the "iTunes Chart" is quite possibly the only chart that counts any more - and it's global. |

£17.99 doesn't compare well with £12.99 and worse with £8.99 at hmv.com for the red/blue CDs |

I have all the Beatle's albums on stone tablet, parchment, wax cylinder, 78, 45, 33 rpm records, reel to reel, cassette, CD, hard drive, remastered CD, and Digital CD...
so I don't think I'll bother with any more... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Me neither! My most recent acquisition was a mint condition boxed set of "Let It Be" (1970 - complete with mint condition and very rare "Get Back" book) on vinyl for an awful lot of money. No, don't ask!!!
My wife doesn't understand why I need two rather than one.

And how much did they earn for the girl from The Apprentice singing 'Octopus's Garden' on Harry Hill's TV Burp? _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

According to Paul Macca it's EMI. Much the same reason why the Beatles albums became available on CD long after others had adopted the format.
Don't forget also that it took until 2007 for Apple Corps Ltd and Apple Computer Inc to resolve their trademark differences. There was no way that Apple (the music publisher) was going to get involved with Apple (the computer company) until that was sorted out. |

If EMI don't allow itunes to sell the tracks at 79p like most others they will miss the market opertunity _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

According to this article, not only EMI, but also Apple Corps, Ringo, George and the estates of both John (Yoko) and George.

Although some of the tracks are in itunes top fifty I don't think they're selling quite as well as they might have done. The Red and Blue double album CDs were spotted in Sainsbury's last night at £9.99 _________________ Ron |

The delay must surely be down to Apple Corps. It's no coincidence that since The Beatles got rid of the bloke who'd run Apple for 40 years ("protecting the brand") the songs have turned up everywhere. And quite right too, frankly. |

Has anyone else noticed that over the years you never seemed to see Beatles albums / CDs in the reduced section in record stores?
It does seem different these days but I dont think I'm seen them in the 2 for £10 section yet. |

Are you thinking of Neil Aspinall? If so, they didn't get rid of him - he died (a couple of years ago, I recall). He managed the Beatles' Apple Corps rights rigidly, which is probably not a bad thing.
The biggest task he had to sort out was the Apple Corps Ltd v. Apple Computer Inc. issue. He just managed to see the whole thing settled before popping his clogs. |

Yep, Neil Aspinall. Shown the door well before he died because he was guarding the rights too rigidly and not allowing the sort of exploitation of The Beatles brand that could be made nowadays. |

I don't recall reading that he'd been "being shown the door"; I thought he became increasingly peeved at the way the once-precious catalogue was slowly being exploited and therefore resigned. He did, however, hang about long enough to see a resolution with Steve Jobs & Co. over Apple Computer Inc. |

With The Beatles going on iTunes the X-Factor decided to have a night of songs by them and Shaun Keaveny said he would be round to Wagner's' house to make sure he had to draw Incapacity Benefit if he murdered the song he chose to perform.....not quite sure what he meant by if .... |

The whole show was just cringeworthy! The so-called "mentors" haven't a clue.
I'm not watching it any more. Nope. Never..... Not ever. |

They only made their highest entry at No.40 this week, let's see what future weeks bring. |
