I'm a big Bob Harris fan, have been for years, he's a bit unctuous but he's genuine and well informed. I listen to his Saturday show religiously, even since it moved to midnight and Sunday morning 'cos I just happen to be up. Similarly, since I turned 50 this strange affliction has overcome me, I call it Oldtimers Disease, the symptoms of which are an unexplained increased tolerance of Country Music. Dang! I even like some of the stuff, so I do tune in to Bob Harris Country while preparing a light supper for Madame. Oldtimers is not fatal but there is no known cure. Male sufferers often find themselves staring blankly at photos of the Dixie Chicks, female victims suddenly burst into tears at the mere mention of Don Henley.

I'll cut to the chase....Bob's Saturday(Sunday) show this week was hosted by a sit-in, one Ricky Ross and I was not displeased with the lad's performance. Interesting chat, well informed, enthusiastic and an absolutely stonking playlist and a terrific live session from Roddy Hart, new to me but worth the hearing. I recommend the show to you all for Listen Again. Also, he's in for couple of weeks. Give him a listen, I respectfully commend him to the house.

Ricky is from the band deacon blue and sometimes hosts a show on Radio Scotland
He released a solo albom which bombed but i thought was quite good will give him a go on listen again as i have now sorted out my speaker problem.

Dohh! I didn't realise it was THAT Ricky Ross. Anyone who names his band from a Steely Dan lyric can't be all bad. Indeed he did mention his Radio Scotland show, Another Country.

Thanks for the info. Very Happy

May try it on Listen Again, seem to do more of it in winter and the TV is lousy for the next few weeks!

I'm listening to Bob Harris's show from Saturday night just now and he said sometimes he feels like a voice in the wilderness. That's exactly what he is, as it's very rare indeed that I don't hear someone new I would like to hear much more of, on his show.

The iPlayer's great for catching up, but he shouldn't be on in the early hours of Sunday morning, he deserves a much wider audience than that. He's perfect for the slot he used to have, late nights, during the week.

Bob's show was even better when it was live,
if you notice there are no dedications anymore (though there used to be far too many)
but i don't blame him for not wanting to drive home after 3am every sunday morning

I imagine it might be a little more difficult to get guests to appear live at that time of the morning too. What a waste of one of the most knowledgeable and informative presenters on Radio 2.
