I haven't listened to Radio 2 since POTP on Saturday, and it's now Friday.

To be honest, I just don't care what that idiot Shennan does with the station any more.

I caught a bit of the change over between CE and ZB while in a truck on Tuesday but other than that it's been weeks for me.
Not missing it at all, my ipod is king what a great dj shuffle is, I never have to say I don't like this or that. I like them all.
What better way to drive to work on a Saturday morning to Kick Out The Jams by MC5 ?

The MC5. Wow. That played at my college once towards the end of their career. They weren't nearly as good as I expected them to be - but they did play the version of "Kick Out The Jams" that Dave Lee Travis never could! Smile

It's one of the great quandries with musicians, do you go and see so called "legends" because in general they are a shadow of their former selves.

Would I go and see the Stones now having never seen them? probibly not
but if a band like MC5 turned up at my college then I think I would. I have the same feeling about going to see the Pixies, saw them on 91 just before they split. Still one of the most exiting bands I've ever seen live but now they have reformed not sure it's the same thing, I think I won't bother

I know what you mean. That said, although I've been seeing the Stones lots since first seeing them in the early 70s I'd still pay to see them again because there are so little bands who not only have such longevity but who are also great rock bands still. The problem with the Stones is that there's only three of the original line-up now, but it doesn't matter. Interestingly, my 27-year-old son is intent on seeing them at least once while he can.

Re the opening comment, the presence of Chris Tarrant on the afternoon show this week has given us some very good listening--on Classic FM!

But R2 still has its moments. I wouldn't be without SOTS and have set to record 10-11pm on the next two Tuesdays and Wednesdays More Bands That Mattered and the David Jacobs programmes respectively. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed for another series of Desmond Carrington's Iconic Fifties. Then there's his usual Friday night show, of course...

Ian.

It does seem that the best of Radio 2 is now in the evenings & overnight in the mid week. I too like Desmond Carrington, Blues show (Monday) Bob Harris Country (Thursday) Sometimes hear the Folk show on Wednesday Then there's Radcliffe / Maconie (Mon-Wed) Janice Long then Alex Lester (mdt-5:00am Mon-Fri)

Yes, I'm among the "haven't listened to R2 before 7pm last week" crowd, and I don't think I'm going to bother returning to daytime R2 either. I like the programming after 7pm - well, apart from Jo Whiney, but Bob Shennan (just use his initials to describe the usual rubbish that was spewed on Feedback the other week to justify moving R&M to 6Music) is slowly and surely tipping the station down the pan.

I plan to listen to Bob Harris on iPlayer for the rest of this evening - both of his Saturday and Sunday morning shows. They are about the only thing I regularly listen to on R2 now, but never live. I would reckon I'm still well within R2's demographic (44), but I believe I'm being slowly edged out....
