I was surprised when many said 4 times a year......

I didn't hear that question.......... but then again I am listening to Radio Caroline (which has been playing some superlative music today, it has to be said!).
I assume you're referring to the Jeremy Vine "Tabloid at Lunchtime" Show? |

That reminds me of the old Fawlty Towers episode with the Psychiatrists when they ask Basil how often he and Sybil get away on holiday and he misses the vital words in the question and thinks they're talking about making love so he answers
'A couple of times a week being that you ask '
As for bed sheets I think most people change them when they need changing

In the same way that the Daily Telegraph borrows stuff from the Daily Mail, perhaps JV lifted this from Radio 4 to air to a wider audience.

Interesting that no-one actually owns up to how often they clean their sheets, and of course no-one was going to publicly admit on national radio to being one of the 1 in 20 who allegedly only launder them every six months.
