Also made its TV debut recently...
I thought it was good, but not as good as the original. I was surprised that some people thought it was better.

Jeff Bridges turned the 'gruff western drawl' dial all the way over to 'unintelligible' much too often. Maddie spoke in an ultra-fast modern patter (apart from when she doing the voice-over), much more at home in the present day L.A. than the old west.

Jeff Bridges was good, but he really showed how well John Wayne did the pathos, menace and charm of the lead character - it was a part made for him, really.
I also preferred the original's tweaks to the storyline, and the ending was one of the best endings to any film ('Well come see an old man sometime!')
