Steve Wright announced live on air that his intention is to present the afternoon show on radio 2 for another 17 years, until the year 2028,then retire after 30 years on the show! Great news for all us Wrighty fans-but will he really be able to last that long? Of course he could have been joking, but why remove a show if it an't broke....

I've been wondering this for years. Not about 'Wrighty' though! I could go back to when Richard Allinson had Saturday afternoons. Then when Stuart Maconie made that spot listenable again after a noisy interruption inbetween times! Then I could have asked the same question about Stuart's original Critical List show. I'm sure I'll think up other examples!

What about Radcliffe and Maconie?

Back to Steve Wright, its a bit of a running gag, he has been saying 17 years for the last five years. Don't mind the show, at least its better than his current stand ins.

God almighty the stand-ins must be unbelievably bad. Another 17 years of presenting the same show day after day. Help

I really hope Steve is winding us up by saying he is staying on forever.

Good God his time must be up surely soon. His Big Show is so outdated, boring etc.

Surely the BBC must be looking to refresh the afternoon offering soon.

I hardly think that will happen as the show attracts millions. So get your heads out of the clouds he's not going anywhere....

And how many more millions would it attract if you had someone who wasn't so obviously past their sell-by date?

The good thing is, the more B list celebs, dullard stand-ins and Irish presenters Radio 2 bring on - the better Wrighty gets!
He'll go on forever thank goodness! Razz

Well, I agree with B lists celebs but Tubridy is good standing in for KB. I was dreading the awful Ball.

It already feels like Wright has been going on forever, and ever. Much more impressed with Craig Charles who clearly loves his music. Wright gives the impression that music is just an annoying interupting the sound of his own voice.

The Big Show. A show for all ages. Today's was early Jurassic!

I'm still not sure about Craig. He seems to be one of those celebs who has always wanted a radio job and now he's got one doesn't quite know how it's done on Radio 2.

All that leaning over and speaking softly down the mic is something I just find a bit creepy and innapropriate. It's all a bit over done if I'm honest and altogether unnecessary. He does seem to know his music though and it's always nice to hear something different.

As for Patrick Kielty....well, someone must have told him a few years ago that he was funny and he's been dining out on the Northern Ireland/fiddling Catholic priests stuff for far too long now. It's lost it's edge and it's outdated. I know he doesn't do it on the Radio show but his attempts at "comedy" are fruitless as he isn't really a comedian....IMO

And someone needs to tell him that whatever the producer is doing "through the glass" is of absolutely no interest as we can't actually see it. It's Radio Patrick! Laughing
