It was one of JV subjects. The fire officer was right saying leave it to the professionals. This was very stupid, but very funny.

I would do the same for our dog- maybe I wouldn't strip off but I would try to save him myself. "leave it to the professionals" I'm not aware of a professional "dog trapped on ice rescue service". What's their number?
So here's the deal... my dog trapped on ice.
1. I'm already right there. So no waiting.
2. I'm not as heavy as your average Fireman and the truck load of equipment they'd have to lay on the ice to spread the load to comply with health and safety regulations.
3. My dog is likely to try to come to me- he'd run away from a fireman.
4. If I died in the river while recusing my dog, very few people would care, there'd be a small story in the local paper about how a stupid old woman died trying to rescue her dog. If a fireman died- a family would lose a father, a mother her son, etc etc, there'd be uproar on Jezza Vine and that old debate again about, should we use professional firefighters to rescue dogs/cats etc...
It's no biggy, I'd much rather it was my life on the line to save my dog than someone else's life. Seems fair to me. |

Quite right Rachel and of course what often gets forgotten is that there have been many instances of dogs (and indeed other animals) saving humans
I know of more than one occasion when owners have been wakened by their pets only to find parts of their house are on fire
And there have been cases of dogs running to attract the attention of rescuers where their owners have been trapped on rocks or other dangerous places
It's not a one way thing and I'd try to rescue any animal in distress _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles?

I'd do anything to rescue my Newf from any situation.. I'd drive my truck through my house if it would save her life.
I didn't hear all the show but I'm guessing there were comments about how he shouldn't have risked his life for a pet... etc etc..
I've heard similar comments before on Jeremy's show.
Some people just do not understand the strength of feeling most "owners" have for their dogs.. it's a powerful thing.
I'd prefer to call the fellow a hero! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

He must have been chilly I understand completely though why he felt he had to rescue his dog.
These things tend to be instinctive, personally if I saw an animal in trouble I'd feel compelled to help.
Those who say "it's just a dog" have no idea what it feels like to own a pet or how horrible it feels to lose one. |

If he had clothes on, he would't have been able to swim as freely if he went into the water. |
