I'm here taking it easy at our little romantic hideaway in West Norfolk and I thought I'd stick the radio on and let Chris Tarrant do his thing at 2.00pm while I get on with some work.

Aaaaaarggggh! What did I hear? It's a different Chris. Knobbo Evans, to be precise!

Thankfully, it being a Freeview source, I was able to switch to Stuart Maconie (without his co-presenter Mark Radcliffe for some reason) who is a much, much better radio presenter in my opinion.

As you said on another thread Radio 2 should now be renamed Radio Evans as that is what it is fast becoming.

I've had my internet radio on since midday and it will stay on unless I know R2 will be Olympic free.

I've been listening to 6 Music since 2.00pm and apart from the good music (and lack of nonsense banter and silliness a la Radio 2) that Maconie's been playing there's been not a single reference to the Olympics. It was worth retuning for that alone!

Talking of Knobbo Evans, I've had to avoid the One Show on BBC1 this week because it's been dominated by.............

Yep. You guessed. It's now getting beyond a joke.

Yeah, they must be crazy to make the most of their most popular presenter. What are the Radio 2 bosses up to? Wink

They're squeezing every bit of value out of their overpaid, self-obsessed darling - and running the risk of alienating a large number of listeners and viewers. I know very few people who like him, but a couple of listeners to his breakfast show I was talking to recently also commented that they're getting fed up with his presence everywhere. They're even bored with his radio show.

My son, who's in his 20s, came round the other evening just as a Tv commercial containing an Evans V/O came on. His remark was: "Can we go anywhere where we don't have to hear or see that prat?".

I did laugh. He's right, of course. There isn't - apart from 6 Music.

Been hearing this since the day he started on Radio 2 (mostly from yourself, in every thread ever - it's like you're obsessed or something) but seen very little actual evidence.

Mostly from me? Rubbish.

And it depends where you look for "evidence". Yes, I am obsessed - with criticising crap, self-obsessed broadcasters like Evans. Don't worry though - he's not alone. Standards in British broadcasting have never been lower and the BBC's use of his services are demonstrative of that in my opinion. Still, if listeners are happy with his style of "me, me, me - listen to me" broadcasting as they chomp on their cornflakes then that's their choice.

But what's the point? After all these years, what do you possibly hope to achieve by writing the same thing about the same person over and over again?

I listened the other afternoon and he was quite good.

I like Chris Evans, he's welcome on my radio or indeed in my home any time..... well as long as he arrives well before bedtime, I can't be doing with visitors after 10pm......

There was a good thread on Yahoo about him the other week, after he'd been banned for life from the Dunhill Cup for having a, I quote, "dodgy handicap" I think it’s funny that they banned him; I suggested that he turn up there unshaven, wearing a poncho and sombrero, perhaps manning a kiosk selling enchiladas.....

Ha! Like when Terry & Gaby ended on Channel 5 and the final shot was of Chris Evans in a flat cap and mac, back on his market stall - he's always got something to fall back on.
