Why in these days of cut backs and most people having to tighten their purse strings, do we pay for JV to go to Burma?

I really find this sort of waste typical of the BBC's bad management

When oh when will the BBC be brought to book for their bad planning and waste of my licence money? Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I completely agree Hedgehog

I couldn't even be bothered listening as I am absolutely fed up with the BBC'S apparent obsession with obscure foreign issues when there are major problems right here right now

I'll guarantee there was no mention on the show of DLT and how his World Service broadcasts kept the Burmese opposition leader sane despite years of house arrest - that just wouldn't fit in with the ludicrous political correctness agenda we've had to suffer in this country for years now Rolling Eyes

Did seem ridiculous and pointless, yes. Maureen Lipman's "Message To Burma" was incredibly patronising.

I usually feel most O/B aren't much good but can just about remember listening to Jimmy Young broadcasting from Russia for 2 or 3 days a long time ago now. I suppose that was done because you were able to do so for the first time and this broadcast falls into the same category I think.

I didn't feel it was too politically correct though and didn't expect to hear any mention of DLT Ruddles so wasn't disappointed.

What did annoy me was the mention of various bits being available on Facebook to hear and see. Why should we have to join it to see what should be on the website. I emailed the show later to express my annoyance at the use of Facebook on Radio 2.

I totally agree with you Helen about Facebook. I really don't want to get involved with what should be just be a social network not source of information for radio listeners.
