The price of a lottery ticket is to double to £2. Is this good value?
No.
Here’s the thing… you have more chance of being hit by a meteorite on your way to the newsagent to buy your ticket than you do of winning the jackpot. How many people do you see walking around with a hard hat on? How many people watching that awful lottery programme on a Saturday night are doing so in an underground hardened concrete shelter? Not many. So it follows that people whom buy a ticket are stupid people.
The, but lots of money goes to good causes argument, doesn’t work either. You see, only a tiny fraction of your dosh goes to the good causes, if you didn’t bother with a ticket for a whole year saving £240 and gave just 10% of that to a charity you choose then more of your dosh has gone to good causes than if you’d played the lottery and you’re over £200 squid to the good. It’s win win not to play. |

Seems ridiculous to double the entry price. £2 is too much.
As a community cinema owner, I was at a BFI event recently where they revealed that there's not only lots more Lotto money going to 'good causes' because the Olympics are over, but also more money because we're in a recession and more people are buying tickets! |

I agree but the thing is people need hope during these bad economic times and so they buy tickets...heck i buy them now and then if i am in a shop selling them i do think £2 will put people off though

I agree Rach - in any case it just doesn't make economic sense for the public at large because Camelot has doubled the ticket price but the jackpot prize certainly hasn't doubled and if ticket sales reduce because of the price hike the jackpot total is likely to go down rather than up
