Wasn't it just appalling?
Soap operas, boring repeats, films that have been on loads of times before.
I think ITV3 took the biscuit, 3 days of Carry on films! They were OK in their day and maybe the odd one here and there is alright but 3 days!!! No. |

I agree about there being too many films, especially for a non film buff like me. This, of course, means that I'd be no good on Pointless, given the number of times film categories comes up on there in one form or another! I do enjoy Call The Midwife but why show it again a couple of days later? I also enjoyed Still Open All Hours, the sequel with Granville now running the shop, but felt a bit short changed that it was only the standard ½ hour episode. I am sure Christmas specials (as it was billed) used to run for an hour. I do think they could make a whole series or two of this one. Those were the Christmas highlights for me.

I think the 30-minute "Still Open All Hours" is intended as a pilot, and a decision on commissioning a series will depend on audience figures and general response.
I saw this and enjoyed it but it was one of the few TV programmes I watched over the break - for years we've generally avoided festive fayre on TV and radio because it's more likely to be naff.
By all accounts, the bulk of it was just that!

I haven't paid any attention to the Queen's speech for years. It always appears to have been written by the Palace Press Office and she just looks so bored reading an Autocue! |

It wasn't so much the actual speech but rather the lack of it! Most of it showed the band playing carols in the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

As i thought........ a PR job!! 
Interestingly, we're staying at our country bolt-hole quite near the Sandringham estate at the moment. They went to the beautiful little Sandringham church as usual on Christmas Day, I do believe, but I haven't seen any of them out and about since! |

I do hope that a whole series does come out of this as I do believe it would work, not least as it is the natural progression, viz. Arkwright is gone and Granville has taken over (as opposed to someone else playing the 'Arkwright' character, which may not work as well) Given that & the length of time it has been off air, yes, I think it has a chance. We'll see what happens!

Watched The Railway Children today which is one of my all time favourite films, so it wasn't all bad.
Also just watched a tribute to Mel Smith followed by a tribute to Felix Dexter, really enjoyable. Both died very young and it makes you realise how very short life can be. |

Really?  
Watched very little over the actual Christmas period but have caught up with some since....
On Christmas Day itself my son insisted on putting the TV on,which was a bit unusual to say the least, whilst we were opening presents ...it turned out to be a picture of a lovely log fire burning merrily away with choirs singing carols in the background which was a nice accompaniment.
Death Comes To Pemberley was alright but the ending was a bit farcical with Elizabeth dashing onto the gallows declaring Wickham's innocence. 
I quite enjoyed the Strictly special and was surprised just how good Elaine Paige was ...she was my winner without a doubt!
Like gazmando I enjoyed the tribute to Mel Smith ...was a treat to watch. |

It's a good film but it is on at least once a month.
I've enjoyed Christmas University Challenge and Celebrity Mastermind. Everything else was just dull, dull, dull.
Lazy programming from all channels but I suppose it is a reflection of TV in general now, 99% tat. |

Yes, I agree. It's also a film that you can pick up for 50p in the remainder racks of many high street vendors. |

What made me laugh out loud was that Carry On was on all day long bookended by "Jesus Christ Superstar" Obviously ITV 3's controller got a bit mixed up. On the day that is supposed to be about Christ's birth he shows a film about his death.

No 6, it's just thoughtless ignorance.
At this time of year, quite often, TV or radio broadcast the complete Handel's The Messiah, again that is really an Easter oratorio, not for Christmas.
