I knew this would be a moving film, because of the content, but was pleasantly surprised to see that it had been balanced out with some delightful touches of humour (Do take your hankies though) with Dame Judi delivering some lovely lines. ( Steve Coogan is the co-writer of this screenplay so some credit goes to him for that)
Judi Dench has never been finer ....a hard trick to pull out of the bag when you are the superb Dame Judi and Steve Coogan is excellent as the journalist ,at a crossroads in his career, who helps her in her quest.
A world-weary political journalist picks up the story of a woman's search for her son, who was taken away from her decades ago after she became pregnant and was forced to live in a convent.

If it's still on at your local cinema I heartily recommend it! |

Martin Sixsmith was on JV yesterday, after 1. I didn't know the story behind the film at all until then.

It was really quite an interesting feature - quite unusual these days on the JV Show
Sadly normal service was resumed today with a half hour feature on how many times per month listeners make love _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Didn't hear any of it today, probably just as well!

It was cringeingly embarrassing. People in their 70s telling JV they made love twice a night. Yuk. |

It was not good listening.
In typical JV show style, in a debate about frequency of sexual activity, a guest was wheeled in who apparently hadn't been briefed about the subject in hand, and talked for a couple of minutes about changing trends in numbers of sexual partners - a completely separate issue.
I now listen to the JV show only to see how they can mess things up today. |

Yes, I listened to some of it as well (until I could bear it no more). I can't for the life of me work out how the JV Show can be "Radio's Most Listened-to Current Affairs Show" (as has been claimed by JV himself). The piece about trends in people's sexual activity was utterly dire.
"The World at One", usually presented by the much-better-informed Martha Kearney, is my lunchtime radio choice these days. |
