I'm glad it's not just me who thought the mix on episodes 1 and 2 was just dreadful. I was saying to my wife that in every dubbing (final mixing) suite you'll always have a pair of squawk boxes (ordinary TV speakers) in addition to the high-quality audio monitors in order to check how the mix will sound on ordinary TV sets. The dubbing mixer will normally switch back and forth between one and the other to ensure that the balance will dound OK on rubbish speakers, but it seemed that this basic technique wasn't used on Jamaica Inn. Pity, because visually it's been fabulous.
That said, I won't mention the fact that I haven't yet heard a single authentic mid-Cornish accent being spoken; the speech is closer to Bristolian and even Swindonian! Perhaps they couldn't afford a decent dialogue coach in addition to squawk boxes in the dubbing suite.

| I feel sorry for the actors who will end up with this production on their CVs especially Sean Harris who plays Joss who seems to have been given lines that would not have been coherent even without the technical issues. |

We gave up on Shetland because of poor sound quality. I don't mind straining to catch what's being said, but having to repeat it for the other half is just a bit more than I can bear.

The Enunciators
THE BBC has unveiled a new drama which promises some of the most clearly-spoken action ever seen on TV.
The Enunciators,which stars properly educated actors Rupert Penry-Jones and Tom Hiddleston as police investigators without a hint of a regional accent, will follow a murder investigation where everyone explains everything to everyone else throughout.
Characters will speak directly to camera to make lip-reading easier and will announce their emotional states by writing them on large signs.......
