Maybe you've heard the hype? Tonight at 8pm, across all the BBC they're launching the new Children In Need single - it's a love letter to BBC Music, about bringing all types of music together for the good of us all. It features Nicola Benedetti, Alison Balsom, Jamie Callum, Will.I.Am, Elton John, Paloma Faith, One Direction and and the other usual suspects...

And, like everything Bob Shennan is in charge of, it's bloody awful.

Really, the video's going to have to be amazing because the song (a cover of the Beach Boys "God Only Knows") is dire. It's trying to be Perfect Day but just doesn't work at all, and also manages to unfortunately sound like the theme to Jim'll Fix It. Well done #BBCMusic.

Yes I've heard the hype and thought it would be something most of us could do without!

Another thing, and sorry to hijack your thread a bit Ian, but what the heck is Radio 2 doing trying to promote classical music for primary school children, has it got them in the remit as well? Rolling Eyes

Why can't they just stick to the shedule for 52 weeks and just play the records?

I would have thought that most primary school children would listen to Radio One in any case so it seems to me it's simply a case of making their parents feel guilty that their parenting skills are somewhat inadequate

With all the other problems in this country today I would have thought that failing to educate them in the joys of classical music could hardly be considered a major crime - but hey - who knows - perhaps the SS (otherwise known as Social Services Smile ) might take a different view - unless of course the parents are of Asian origin Rolling Eyes

If I were a cynical soul, I'd think this is all about trying to boost Radio 3's profile rather than any educational aspect.

As far as I'm aware the 8pm "event" was broadcast across all BBC platforms except Radio 3!

It was a pretty anticlimactic affair, as Ian said earlier it's trying to be another Perfect Day but it fails miserably. Of course it's for CinN so it will probably do well and make tons of cash.

I've managed to hear only part of it once (on purpose) as I love the original for several personal reasons and don't really want to hear it more than necessary to detract from the original. Must say I wasn't impressed by what I heard.
