Radio 2 presenters used to have studio managers to fade up the guests mics, news in for the readers now they are basically self op there own studios even though most know how to run the desks,.they will have to remember to fade those mics up. It was first noticed last week when Simon Mayo posted a blog regarding the changes.

Commercial Radio have been fully self oping for years with engineers on hand if the studios have problems. It's just the sign of the times BBC are saving money.

They could save even more if Shennan was a bit more savvy about who can actually do the job! Shocked

The studio managers do more than just fade the mics in and out. When I was there they connected guests who were in other studios both in the UK and abroad. When the sound doesn't sound right on your radio blame the DJ not the studio manager who would have blended it in!

Maybe that's why they don't have callers on the 'Homework Sucks' feature anymore?
