Much as I like her, it's not enough to break my habit of avoiding R2 in the mornings!

While I don't mind her, I do think she is very very average.
Why do they think that every ex Radio 1 DJ naturally has a right to be on Radio 2?
It's not even the ones who were there when it was at it's peak, it seems to be the ones who brought the listening figures crashing down.

I have to disagree most of you on this subject

I'd love to see Sara permanently on the breakfast show as I've never ever been able to listen for the last 25 years - except when Johnnie Walker or certain others were covering

What is it about that time slot that over the years seems to have inflicted on people like me such self indulgent idiots Mad

I'm fine with Sara. I think she does a decent job..... doesn't try too hard.....doesn't shout.......isn't too up herself.......isn't Zoe Ball......isn't Vanessa.

It's still the same tiresome format, though.

You could argue the same point re Messrs Bruce's and Wright's shows-the same boring format day after day, week after week , year after year-just awful.

The sooner these guys are pensioned off the better.

Having had the misfortune of hearing the drivel shouted by Evans, the above criticism is every bit as valid to his excuse for a breakfast show. To me it is indeed the same boring format day after day, week after week , year after year-just awful. It is, thanks to that, that I never want to hear 'Candyman' by Sammy Davis Jnr' or that one that goes 'How Do you Want Your Eggs in the morning' ever again. If this racket belongs anywhere, it should be on CBBC.

They at least have the advantage of being Evans-free. Some consolation, I know, but be thankful for small mercies that's what I say!

That said, the Radio Caroline breakfast show and Russ Williams on Absolute at 10.00am are two radio choices that are infinitely better than R2 drivel these days.

How would you know that... unless you listen?

I have the misfortune to hear bits of it on occasion. What little I do hear sounds the same old Evans ego-train to me.

Doesn't ego bring in listeners? The only thing is he does shout whilst talking. I'm sure the control room try and turn his voice down..

It may do and it may also drive them away!

How about turning it down to absolute zero!

I would prefer Shennan to do some cost cutting, Evans is probably the highest paid person on Radio 2.

Is that a serious question Mark?

It has nothing to do with levels and everything to do with "voice". For me, his voice and his whole manner of communicating to his listeners is totally annoying.

Trouble is that Shennan has his hands tied behind his back in many senses. He's been forced to apply the across-the-board 30% cuts to radio operating costs and yet he has to deliver consistently high audiences for his programming in order to justify the station's budget and, of course, his own neck.

Evans is paid a reported £500,000 per year as part of his contract to the BBC (I think this covers all of his contributions across radio and TV), and if it "delivers" a substantial audience then it's a good bet for him.

Personally, I'd make that half-million saving and encourage Evans to go back to Radio Phone-in Land where he belongs, but apparently lots of people do listen to him regularly, even I can't work out why.

Colin-Good shout re Russ Williams on Absolute Radio.

Have been tuning into his show for a while-great show-Russ has excellent musical choice.

The show is so much better than the dire offering by Ken Bruce on Radio 2.

People only moan about Evans about his past etc, because they are jealous.

Wrong. I moan about Evans for the simple reason that he annoys me. That's why I avoid him.

Likewise! He clearly belongs on CBBC or Cebeebies! Not grown up radio!

I agree

I always try to remember to retune the car radio to r4 when I get back home after Drivetime ends - but quite often I forget and then the next morning - Arrrgh - except when we all get an unexpected bonus when Sara is on Smile

Agreed. He's very annoying at Breakfast time. I could cope with him at Drivetime or Saturday afternoon but not breakfast. Rolling Eyes

His irritating voice and self-centred presentation style remains the same whatever time of the day it is.

I can't stand him at anytime either but I'm less tolerant at breakfast Sad as I suspect a lot of people are.

If you listened to the New Years Day handover between Sara and Richard, she did say we want more of Richard Allinson in 2015.
