We all moan about the R2 playlist, well just seen a tweet asking for questions for the Feedback team to put to R2 head of music Jeff Smith.

http://www.bbc.co.uk//radio4/features/feedback/contact/

They need them by the end of today though.

It's a bit difficult to know what question to ask, other than "When is Radio 2 going to allow people with imagination to build the station's playlist?".

Can't imagine it will be asked, though, so I won't bother and will listen to better stations instead.

Have just sent in my own comments, saying that Radio 2 (Mon-Fri) plays far too much 80s music and that if they want to attract and retain more listeners in the 50+ age range they should play more 60s/70s music.

I didn't bother. I could have asked: "How come Radio Caroline sounds great and doesn't have any playlists at all, when R2 sounds so awful for much of the time and has dire playlists?".

I'm not bothered about the era of the records (although I think there's far too much 70s stuff) but it's more that the same songs keep coming around and around. A bit more depth and adventure wouldn't go amiss.

There always used to be the excuse that the "obscure" stuff wasn't on the system but Chris Evans has been plucking a lot of left-field stuff out there lately (eg today he ran the themes to Swap Shop and Tiswas) so why can't everyone else?

Proof, if anymore were needed, that Evans is far better suited to CBBC than grown-up TV & radio!

Oh, yeah? Lots of kids know the theme tune to Swap Shop do they?

The average age of Radio 2 listeners is 51, therefore the majority of Chris's listeners were in their early teens when Swap Shop started. So he's playing music for their era.

Music, I've discovered has a great deal in common with bathroom taps: the more you have to choose from, the more difficult it is to choose one-just one.... I want them all! So I can see why they have playlists. Smile

I'm quite happy with other people's playlists. It's the drab, predictable, radio 2 playlists I can't stomach.

But, more importantly, what was the response?

10 years on, and Feedback are again discussing the Radio 2 playlists in the wake of Steve Wright's departure.

Scott Mills not very popular reading all those Tweets! I've only heard it in 10-15 min segments in the car and it's awful. I was getting to quite enjoy O J Borg.

Can now get Boom in the car but I like a change from what I've had on at lunch times, usually Emma B. No longer have a CD player and haven't got round to sorting out or figuring out how to use a memory stick with stuff on (only changed 2 weeks ago!), so missing my own playlists in the car.......

I listened to Feedback yesterday, these BBC controllers are never wrong, or so they say. I don't think Radio 2 has ever been as bad as it is now.
The only programme that I regularly listen to since the latest changes is Sounds of the Seventies.
Thank goodness for Boom Radio is all I can say.

I'm listening less and less. Got a few Bob Harris and Johnnie Walker SOTS to skim through and that's about it. Not even listened to Liza Tarbuck this year.

Boom are going for the jugular!

I haven't listened to Liza this year either Raver! Enjoyed Bob Harris sitting in for Johnnie though.
