Listening to SOTS this morning I was really saddened to hear of the death of Lynn Annette Ripley - better known as Twinkle
I have to admit this sad news passed me by largely because it received virtually no coverage despite her two big hits in 1964
I remember at that time I was nine years old and she was probably the first lady who opened my eyes to the existence of the opposite sex - I had a poster of Twinkle on my bedroom wall for quite a few years
Quite apart from that even at that age I appreciated her for the fact that she wrote most of her own songs unlike the likes of Cilla Black and Sandie Shaw who simply had success on a plate handed to them through the efforts of proper songwriters
I know that Twinkle came from a very artistic family and both her dad and her sister were talented in their own right and it's sad to see yet another 60s icon pass away at what these days is a relatively early age - especially for a woman
Recalling the words of her biggest hit I just wonder whether her motor bike hero was actually waiting for her at the gates of heaven - I guess she'll know the answer by now _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Sad news, I heard it for the first time on SOTS too.
(I have missed The Last Word on Radio 4 for the last few Fridays as my Mum is seriously ill in hospital.) _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009
