I woke up this morning to hear David Bowie singing on the (non music) radio and my heart went cold.

Recording right up to the very end,he leaves a huge chasm that cannot be filled as far as the music world goes.

He was a chameleon of music who was never afraid to try something new

He truly was unique...a one off.

The third high profile death in such a short space of time, following 'Lemmy' of Motorhead & 'Stewpot'. I hope this means that there won't be any more for quite a while now. I have grown up hearing these people. My earliest memories of David Bowie are seeing him on Top Of The Pops doing 'Space Oddity' on it's first outing in the late 1960s. I like most of his tracks, but I think these two deserve to be played much more than they are: 'Loving The Alien': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOaqDEjxQAU &
'Slow Burn': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDoLjW4YmHs

A very sad day for all true music lovers

Bowie was a genius and I was lucky enough to see him live in Blackburn in 1973 on the Ziggy Stardust tour and I will never forget that wonderful night - the tickets were 80 pence and the place wasn't even full but what a show he put on very ably assisted by his superb band

It's been really good today to hear tracks being played on radio such as 'Rock and Roll Suicide'' Moonage Daydream' AND 'Five Years' but hells teeth - these tracks are so good they should have been played long before now Sad

Only Bowie could think of releasing an album three days before his death in which the lyrics of the first track effectively talk about him being 'in heaven'

I doubt we'll ever see the like of him again and actually I don't think the word 'chameleon' accurately describes him because such creatures change colour in order to blend into their current background whereas Bowie was never a shrinking violet and was quite open and indeed proud of the various reinventions he went through over several years

Anyway RIP David -you've given many of us a great deal of pleasure over more than half a century and now it's time to rest

I agree with everything you say, Ruddles. The cliche 'genius' is overused but it certainly applies to Mr Jones.
And it's nice to hear Moonage Daydream and other album tracks rather than the usual hits which we've all heard.

I too remember Space Oddity from 1969, so different from everything else at the time.

An interview with Jeremy Paxman from 1999.

In it even David is unsure how you pronounce Bowie. Very Happy
