I never listen to the JV programme but had it on in the car this morning. I couldn't believe my ears. It sounded as if he had never set foot in a library and had no idea how fiction and non-fiction books were arranged.
I wondered if he was trying to ask questions as if he were the dimmest of his regular listeners but that is giving him the benefit of the doubt. He just came over as being appallingly stupid.
Mind you, his ignorance about some of the subjects which come up in Eggheads leaves me open mouthed in disbelief. |

In my experience he's quite thick on many subjects one would expect him to know about - not least of course music _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Didn't hear the show at all today, but funnily librairies (the closure of) was one of the topics when I was in the studio 11 years ago! I can't remember what was said either on air or chatting afterwards but we did talk about them.
He comes across as being an avid reader (he's probably mentioned it several times) so I find it hard to believe he's never been in one Eileen, but as Ruddles says he does seem to have little knowledge on things you would expect him to know but that's the younger generation in many respects!
Maybe I'll listen back later.

More worrying than Jeremy Vine not knowing much about libraries is the fact that the Government seem to have little knowledge and no appreciation of the value of libraries. |

I agree, they seem to know the price of everything but the value of nothing.
We are losing library staff in all of the local libraries and some have been closed. I hate to see the books being sold off too. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

The section I heard starts at about 43' into the programme and it includes a conversation with a retired reference librarian. |
