Writing this as I listen to the returning Brian Matthew and I have to say what a pleasure it is to hear him back in harness again on SOTS and sounding as good as ever.
Welcome back Brian!

Couldn't agree more, it was nice to hear his voice again. I'm glad everything is well with him now. |

Couldn't agree more - great to hear him back in fine fettle. Sounds as though he had one of these hospital bugs, which delayed his return.
The show wasn't without its errors, which were down to the producer, really (didn't catch the last 15 mins - was it still Roger?). Most glaring was the wrong Adam Faith track played - they must have picked out CD1 instead of CD2 of the Very Best of... set and played The Reason instead of Baby Take A Bow (they're both track 7).
Never mind, enjoyed it anyway. _________________ Ron |

Heard only the first hour or so of SOTS today as I was out at work after that. Doubtless Listen Again will be employed in due course!
Spotted the Adam Faith wrong track, as I have Baby Take a Bow on a 62 collection.
Many thanks to those who have so ably kept the show going over the last few months. In particular, our debt to Johnnie Walker is incalculable.
But, most of all, what a treat to hear that warm, reassuring voice again this morning, and to surmise that its owner is fully restored to health and, I hope, will remain so for many years to come.
I'll sure everyone will concur when I echo John H and say--welcome back, Brian.

Yes welcome back Brian. It was also good to hear his explanation for his absence. |

It was good to hear him back!
The second hour was excellent so worth a 'Listen Again' Ian. Made for good listening in the car on the way up North!
The producer was indeed Roger.

Yes it good to hear Brian again this morning, I especially enjoyed the A - Z of the Beatles, could not make my mind up if "Fluff" was for real or just taking the wee wee with George Harrison. It was good to hear that Carol Deene track, Johnny played Some People, a couple of weeks ago, didn't Carol Deene also record this? I am sure one of you 60's buffs will tell me as I just have it in my head that I bought it about the time I bought Palasades Park by Freddie Cannon?

Seems strange, as I don't think he mentioned it yesterday, but he did make a reference to Joe I think.

I think that the mini window saying Joe Brown will be sitting in for Brian for the next couple of weeks has been on the SOTS window since before he stood in for Johnnie, standing in for Brian. It certainly was there last weekend and Brian was doing his thing on SOTS yesterday, So I reckon Brian will be back next Saturday as I seem to recall him saying "see you next week AVIDS, yesterday".

I thought that as well BB but they seem to have edited some of it. Odd that it has stayed on though.

Yes, Carol Deene did record Some People and scored a moderate hit with it in late 62.
Johnny Get Angry was a cover of an American hit by Joanie Sommers.

They also played the Marcie Blaine US hit version of Bobby's Girl.
Was Marcie Blaine the singer's real name, or was it taken from Marcia Blaine School For Girls in Muriel Spark's novel 'The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie'? _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

As far as I know Brian is now back permanently on SOTS.Joe's piece on the SOTS page has actually stayed there rather longer than it should have.
I also found it a little strange that Brian thanked and acknowledged JW and JB but never mentioned Suzi Quatro and Sandie Shaw. You would have thought that even if he had not been able to listen to Suzi and Sandie on SOTS someone would at least have made sure they were included in his script.

My thought's exactly. I wondered if anybody else had noticed that! made me cringe slightly at the time.
I'm sure nothing was meant by it. |

I too noticed the ommission of Sandie's name. I missed Suzi's so forgot about her.

Am now working my way through hour 2 on Listen Again (great stuff, even if the Hollies track, one of my special favourites, doesn't sound like the original) but, after reading comments above, I also listened again to Brian's comments right at the start. He did actually thank everyone, especially JW and JB, so I'd say he covered himself. But it might be worth watching in the future, though I hope they won't need any stand-ins for a good while now!

Have now completed the second hour of SOTS--superb!
Re the lost Move track, actually I remember this one but think it was simply called Tonight (without the I'll Be Over). If I'm right, this didn't get into the charts till 71 so wouldn't have qualified for inclusion anyway.
No more postings from me re last Saturday's show--promise! But don't let me stop anyone else.
