Just heard on Channel 4 News that Gerry Rafferty has died. Another great performer has been lost. |

I was quite shocked to read this. It's actually mentioned on several websites (and already indexed by Google!) but not at all on the BBC website at the time of writing.
Perhaps they're all too busy writing press releases designed to hype next week's Chris Evans breakfast shows. |

I saw Stealers Wheel as a support band in the early 70s and they were very good indeed. Rafferty had such a distinctive voice even then, and I was never surprised that he cut a high profile in the music business through the 70s and into the 80s. |

Sad news.
Apparently royalties from "Baken Street" alone earned him an estimated £80,000 PA.
Sad that things went so wrong for him.
Gerry's first profesional outing was as one half of a folk duo- The Humblebums- with Billy Conn olly!!  |
