Went to see Joan Armatrading at the Gateshead Sage last night. Not really my cup of tea (the trip was Mrs W's idea) but the full auditorium spoke for itself and the final applause was both prolonged and genuine. Also, £25 per ticket was quite reasonable compared with what Newcastle Telewest Arena is charging for similar acts.
Miss A is at York tonight and Liverpool tomorrow, with more dates in the pipeline. If you fancy going, you should have a good night.
The show started with 25 minutes or so of young, folksy Scouse singer Jade Gallagher. Nervousness made her linking announcements a bit low-key and self-effacing but here is definitely a talent to watch.

I remember her making the "Click Song" - back in the 1960s I think it was. That's the first time I recall seeing her perform. _________________ Friends may come and friends may go, but enemies tend to accumulate. |

I saw Joan Armatrading when she was in the charts, she was supporting Supertramp here at our beautiful Deco style ABC Theatre.
It's been demolished and is now a blimmin row of boring shops... |
