The line-up of coaches for the top players is getting interesting:
Andy Murray - Ivan Lendl (back again, hooray)
Novak Djokovic - Boris Becker
Stan Wawrinka - Richard Krajicek
Milos Raonic - John McEnroe (wow, should be fun)
Marin Cilic - Goran Ivanisevic
Some old rivalries will be rearing their heads |

Well done Andy, although it wasn't straight forward. Is it ever with Andy?

What a terrific match. Very pleased for Andy. Raonic is a lovely chap and it was interesting to see that McEnroe has already had a good effect on his play. |

Bravo, James Ward! OK, he lost to Djokovic in straight sets but he put up a good fight.
There was a delightful moment in the second set. Djoko had won the first set 6-0 and was leading in the second 3-0. When Ward finally won a game he threw up his arms and the crowd cheered as if he had won the match. He was then 3-1 down in that second set but took it to a tie break.
And Marcus Willis, number 772 in the world ranking, beat a player who is number 53. |

Despite a rain affected Wimbledon we will, thanks to the Centre Court roof, be able to see Willis go up against Federer this afternoon |

I thought he played really well and if nothing else I think he enjoyed the occasion. Well done Marcus!

It was a wonderful occasion for Willis and the crowd - and who better to be his opponent than lovely gentlemanly Federer?
Did Willis deliberately wear exactly the same headband that Federer always wears? . |

I did wonder, and occasionally it made it difficult to keep track of who was who if it was only an upper body shot!

And now another Brit (Dan Evans) is to face Federer. They will meet in the third round after Evans beat Ukrainian 30th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov.(easy for me to say) |

Just back from a lovely rain-free week in Norfolk but managed to see quite a bit of tennis.
What a great day for the Brits! Andy's second Wimbledon title, Heather Watson's mixed doubles triumph and also success for Gordon Reid in the men's wheelchair singles and Jordanne Whiley in the women's wheelchair doubles.
Plus Marcus Willis won the vote for shot of the championship when he lobbed Roger Federer.

It was fantastic Eileen!
I was so pleased for Heather Watson and Henri Kontinen as they've played so well all week.

Bravo Kyle Edmund! His win today in straight sets over Dusan Lajovic of Serbia puts Team GB into the Davis Cup semi-finals - against Argentina later this year. What a mature 21 year old! It was good to see Andy with the support team - he didn't need to be there but was keen to be present.
I felt sorry for James Ward on Saturday. He was recalled to the team at fairly short notice, although he had planned to play in a grass court event in Rhode Island. Dan Evans's shoulder injury was the reason. Ward was obviously unhappy on the clay court surface but did his best. In past Davis Cup ties he has played an important part. |

Mmmmm - I see that Dan Evans is due to play in a ATP match today. It seems that he's not John Lloyds favourite player after pulling out of a competition JL organised, with no explanation and at short notice. |

That doesn't sound good, pulling out of a tournament at short notice without any explanation and after signing a contract. No wonder John Lloyd is annoyed. I wonder what is behind it. Was the shoulder injury which kept him out of the Davis Cup as bad as reported?
Still, it gave Kyle Edmund the chance to show his quality at the weekend. |

Congratulations to Johanna Konta after she beat Venus Williams in her first WTA Final in Stanton, California. Her ranking is on the rise. She was 147 in the world this time last year and is now ranked 14. |

Andy is due to play today in the semi finals against Kei Nishikori. It says, online, that it starts at 4 this afternoon but I've just flicked through the red button channels and can't find him. |

It has been frustrating trying to locate events with so many choices, red and blue buttons . I hope you found Andy on BBC4 in the end, Becky.
A friend of mine I'd just been speaking to rang me again to ask where he could find the match and as for my 97 year old mother in her care home … I went today and told her to try either 1 or 9 on the key pad but she has probably forgotten. She is just enjoying whichever sport is on. |

Eventually I did....thanks Eileen
So it's del Potro v Murray for the final. Fingers crossed for Andy!
The sports that are listed on some of the extra channels turn out to be different ones which is a bit frustrating. |

Heady days for British tennis!
Kyle Edmund is through to the fourth round, at the US Open, after his win against John Isner. He now faces Djokovic.
Edmund joined fellow Briton Johanna Konta in reaching the fourth round while compatriots Andy Murray and Dan Evans will on Saturday seek to join them in the last 16.

Sorry to see Jo Konta beaten. I don't think I shall be watching Kyle vs Novak in the early hours. I wonder how Novak's wrist is? |

Presumably the wrist has recovered. Still, Kyle has had a very good run and is a hard worker which bodes well for the future of GB tennis . |

Yes all of a sudden we have a few good players after so many years with only Tim Henman or Andy Murray to follow.

So many people seem to diss Tim, don't they, but he actually had a very good career.
I have just googled him and I see that he will be 42 tomorrow.
Come on, Tim! Have a very happy birthday! |

I have never understood people being off about Tim,Eileen. There is much to admire and like about him.
Hope he had a lovely 42nd birthday.
Away from the US Open for a minute..

Davis Cup sensational 5 set match this afternoon, over 5 hours long. Of course I wanted Andy to win but I must say I was thrilled for del Potro's success. What a hero!
The next match with Kyle Edmund vs Guido Pella is supposed to be on the red button but I can't find it .
Found it. Kyle is playing well, doing his best but ... oh well, Argentina are 2-0 up. Team GB will now have to win the doubles tomorrow and both singles on Sunday.
I am still happy for del Potro, though. |

So … it will be Argentina against Croatia in the final. Dan Evans did his best but Leonardo Mayer played such a good match.
At the end when the Argentinians were having their group celebration on the court I thought it was so nice that Delpo broke away and trotted over to Andy and gave him a quick hug, before touching hands with the rest of the GB team. He is such a lovely chap and I will be rooting for the Argys in the final. |

At last! Andy is Number One in the World!
It's a bit of an anti climax that he made it as soon as Raonic withdrew from the Paris Masters semi due to injury and it would have been more of an occasion had the match been played with Andy winning of course.
But - he has made it |

I'm pleased that he's number one in the world - it's really well deserved - but I just wish his views were slightly more pro British rather than over emphasing his Scottish heritage _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I am full of admiration for Andy for the way he has hung on in there after it looked as if he would never get the better of Novak..
Being Number 1 in the world and beating Novak to stay there.....doesn't get much better than that!
A word of congratulations also for Jamie who with his partner,Bruno Soares tops the world doubles ranking. |

I was at the O2 on Saturday afternoon for the Murray/Raonic match. It was one of those matches that I would have enjoyed a lot more if I'd known what the result would be I was surprised and delighted that Andy won on Sunday because the semi-final must have been exhausting, for Andy and his supporters. |
