England 25 Wales 28
Not sure if I should watch England play in a game such as this as I feel quite sick when we lose.
We should have taken the penalty near the end never mind doing a 'Japan'
I bet the neighbours were wondering what on earth was going on at one point as I screamed ..well more than one point.
Credit to Wales for keep on keeping on. |

Only had themselves to blame Becky, kept kicking away possession instead of just keeping the ball and eventually breaking down the defence and of course gave away far too many stupid penalties.
They were the better side but just weren't able to apply the killing touches. _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

You're right,Foggy but the determination of Wales, with all their injuries, really did them credit.
Not sure if my nerves will be up to watching the England v Australia match next Saturday. |

Australia's defence, whilst reduced to 13 men,was simply unbelievable in last night's game. Wow!
The best try-less match ever?? |

Good luck to Wales this weekend. Considering they were the first host nation to go out in the preliminary rounds (1991) they have a duty to avenge England's sorry performance this time. _________________ Standing on Ray Moore's shoulders |

I don't know how many years we have to watch England playing the same stupid way before someone does something about it - we kick the ball away and we refuse to play many phases. Playing phase after phase was exactly what the Clive Woodward team was famous for (putting the opposition through the 'meat grinder').
It is frustrating that one of the best teams in the tournament is out, not through lack of talent and not through lack of effort. If this squad ever start playing the game the way they should, they will be world champions. |

A hard fought match but it wasn't to be for Wales. The off load that led to the winning try was class
Love seeing Jonny Wilkinson,in the studio, giving his expert opinion....a gem of a man.
The French quite like him too.

The All Blacks were in magnificent form tonight. I was laughing in disbelief watching Julian Savea brushing those Frenchmen aside to score his second try...blimey Charlie. |

Ireland blown away by Argentina today - didn't see that coming.
Scotland a tad unlucky against the Aussies who need a more reliable kicker.
Still can't decide whether the Kiwis were just awesome last night or were France just awful.
It's a bit daunting that not a single 6 nation team beat one of the top four southern hemisphere teams - still playing catch up. _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

More cracking games today with Scotland coming heartbreakingly near to the semi-final only to be denied by that one solitary point.
Initially I was very disappointed that England went out so early but I can honestly say I've hardly missed them at all.
The Pumas must be worth a bet for the main prize, if you're that way inclined... I think (and hope) we could be in for some more great rugby next weekend.
During one of the matches the commentator apologised for some 'industrial' language from one (?) of the rugby players. You don't need to be within earshot of rugby players or the like, these days, to hear 'industrial' language.

I'm pleased to see that serious questions are now being asked about the performance and decisions of the South African referee in the Scotland match yesterday
I'm more into Rugby League rather than Union but even I knew that the decision to award Australia a penalty in the dying seconds was clearly wrong - I feel very sorry for the Scottish lads who gave everything and who certainly were robbed _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Great final yesterday and the best team in the tournament deservedly won. Great sportsmanship from both sides.
Thanks for a great world cup - northern hemisphere teams need to go home and think again after the southern teams - including the islanders and Japan showed that a more open passing game is the way forward.
I'd like the authorities to look again at the scoring system to increase the value of scoring tries. _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

Agree about the best side winning,Foggy. It was touch and go for a short period before the All Blacks stamped (in the nicest possible way) their authority on the game.
Lou Macari said on social media, this morning, that the All Blacks cleaned their dressing room before they left it for the last time....apparently they always do it.
(I wonder if any other teams do this?)

I doubt that the All Blacks have ever been so completely dominated in a match as they were today. England just brilliant, from start to finish. I fancied them to win, but the way they played was like a fantasy. And I speak as an Englishman who regards Wales as his favourite international team. They could have won by 30 points, such was their superiority.
What Eddie Jones has to do now, is keep his men grounded and focused for next week and they should...I say should, come back with the trophy.

Yes, England were faultless on Saturday, with a convincing win over the best team in the world.
Yesterday's Wales v SA game was pretty awful, mostly all penalty kicks, and SA didn't look very convincing. Really confident for a trophy on Saturday! |

While I was waiting for the (inevitable??) comeback from New Zealand,England won the match!
What a day for English rugby.
As we watched my daughter and I remarked on the conduct of the players when spoken to by the referee - so much different from watching a football match. Pity it can't be the same. |

Much as I love football, I do find it highly embarrassing when footballers writhe around in agony and then miraculously recover when a penalty is awarded (mentioning no names like Mane and Salah of Liverpool).
Contrast that to rugby union and league, where it's a wonder that there are few serious injuries despite collapsing of scrums etc, and where players seldom cheat and always accept referees' decisions. |

Springboks worthy champions. Never gave England a sniff. I hope Eddie Jones is given another four years to build on what he's done so far.
It's been a cracking tournament and Japan have been brilliant hosts. I hope to return to this thread in four years time, fingers crossed.

I was right to be nervous!
After last week's game this one was a huge disappointment.
No question though that South Africa were magnificent and thoroughly deserved to win.
A game too far for England. |
