So Alistair Cook bowed out of Cricket yesterday. Is there any truth in the rumour that he is now going to send us some Letters From America?! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

In all these years, I've never realised the same names, with or without the extra 'e'!
Fairytale ending, though. He'll be sorely missed. Don't know about lettuce from America...Jennings bats with a stick of rhubarb. If we don't have better openers than him, then we're in a really sorry state. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

...with a flourish!
A wonderful career bookended with centuries....it couldn't have been written any better. ....thoroughly deserved.
Aggers was the star on Twitter yesterday with a reply to a tweet from Piers Morgan...
Morgan wrote ...
Goodbye, Alastair Cook.
We've had our differences, but it would be churlish not to acknowledge your enormous contribution to English cricket.
You made the very best of your abilities, worked ferociously hard, scored a barrel-load of runs & ended on a high. Congratulations.
To which Aggers replied....
So funny knowing Cook couldn’t give a flying f***
Loved it and thousands of others did too! |

A lovely put down for the appalling Piers Morgan.
I feel a bit sorry for Captain Joe Root though. He also scored a century, which was barely noticed! |

What a final day of a test match was that!!!
Still marvelling over what I saw/listened to. Didn't dare it to watch at times so spent a lot of the time with the TMS lads. And then the score got closer and closer and then!!!
Ben Stokes was just phenomenal with Jack Leach giving him terrific support
Michael Vaughan on Twitter
When GeoffreyBoycott says it’s the Greatest Test innings he has seen in 60 yrs watching the game you know it’s the GREATEST

What a day, spoiled only by Spurs losing to Newcastle - sorry Helen. |

Great innings by Stokes (the Durham boy done good),pity the umpire missed the obvious lbw though.
Sorry Becky but the totally surprising win for Newcastle went down well here _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

I hardly missed a ball, in the four days. For me, TMS beats Sky hands down. Nobody to touch Aggers and co. Luckily for me, I had no family commitments - I was asked if I fancied going to the coast on Sunday, but politely (!?!) declined. Best decision I've ever made!
Though once Root got himself out and Stokesy got Buttler out, I did think that was it. Unbelievable Boy's Own stuff. I don't suppose that's very PC these days, but those of a certain vintage will understand.
Pleased for Steve Bruce, too. I don't think White Hart Lane is a very happy camp at the moment. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

So, England batted on and on until they got nearly 500, to try and bowl the WI out twice in the three days remaining, providing they got them out for over 200 runs less than they scored. Except the next day's forecast was rain all day.
I may be wrong, but this has 'draw' written all over it. A missed chance. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

An Old Trafford crowd would have been buzzing at Stuart Broad's innings yesterday. Such a pity there wasn't one there to witness it. |

Some great Friday night cricket between England and Australia!
Very tense at the end - didn't think we'd win it, but we did! |

Channel Four are showing all of the India v England tests and one-dayers. A welcome distraction from all the serious doom and gloom of the past year and no doubt, the next 12 months at least. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

In this ever changing world there are few constants.
'Rain stopped play' during a cricket test match series in England is one of them.
Fingers crossed for 12.05. |

What a series this has turned out to be. Great to see Hameed back after all this time. Robinson is here to stay and all of a sudden, we look like a decent team.
There are no superlatives for Joe Root in this series, as a batsman. For those who have never heard the term 'batsman', now that it seems to have been ditched for the cringeworthy 'batter' - which is usually something that's wrapped around a sausage in a chip shop - to pacify politically correct.com, well that's what we called men wielding a cricket bat in the olden days.
Wait until grasshoppers start chirping about the term 'cricket'. Or milliners start complaining about 'bowlers' being sacrosanct!
It's enough to want to send Lord Beefy to Australia. Funniest thing since Ken Dodd. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

A thumping (Mike Atherton's words) win for England over Australia in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup with England winning by 8 wickets.
A tremendous contribution from Jos Buttler - 71 runs from 32 balls.
A great watch! |

Without a doubt, this is the worst team we've ever put onto a cricket field. And there have been a few contenders over the years.
At least Broady and Jimmy Anderson can feel a little happiness at the dreadful bowling we've offered up. The batsmen haven't been much better. Although we did have chances at winning the last test but as per, Joe Root was criminally over careful with his declaration. I am old enough to remember the great Garry Sobers being the exact opposite and declaring far too generously. Yes, maybe they lost, but the game won, as such as that it was more entertaining for the paying public.
Sir Garfield Sobers achieved greatness in many ways.

Really don't enjoy being put through the wringer but if the result is the same as this every time I suppose it's worth it.???
Well done Joe Root! |

Three key de Grandhomme moments on Saturday swung the match, I bet he's never had such a bad day in his career, calamitous run out, potentially match winning wicket off a no ball then injured out of the game _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

I was just going out to fill the bird bath when the wicket fell and thought disconsolately, that's it. I carried on and when I came back in from the garden I couldn't believe my ears.
de Grandhomme - what a grand name. |
