In order to keep this Board fresh/alive could we not consider having a Sports Section.
I'm sure plenty of existing members plus future new ones would find this interesting etc. |

Mark,
The posts we have at present are thinly spread is it is, I'm not sure adding another section would encourage users to post so much as discourage users to sign up. An empty looking board goes down like the plague. |

How do you think progress is made. |

I'd post on a sports thread _________________ Geddon

You might aswell just pop it in the coffee bar but I'd certainly post in a sports section. _________________

Mark,
At present, I do not think there is any point in having a sports board, as the posts are so thinly spread already.
Progress is made by many things, but a sports section will not be one of them at present. |

Mark, I find it quite amusing that you nievely believe that by having a sport section, there would be more posts about sport. As someone quite rightly pointed out, sports posts can also be made in the coffee bar.
Mark, if you want to go elsewhere to post about sport (as it seems you do from your last post) please do so. But please do not continue to posts threats about you no longer posting certain topics here. Do you honestly believe that if you threatened to no longer post sports here, I would create a section for you? |

Err - I don't think MM was threatening, he's merely saying he'll post about sport elsewhere, as I do!!
Calm down dear, it's only a message board _________________ MiS |

Sorry, Made in Surrey, but if you look at the way he became quite 'I'm going to shake my rattle until someone listens', then it is obvious he is throwing his toys from the pram. |

Mark,
With respect, I feel that this board would have little benefit from the introduction of a Sports Section. There are plenty of forums out there for people who want to chat about sport and besides, sport chat, especially football, tends to bring out the nastiness in people. God knows enough of that goes on here every time Scott re-registers.
Admin,
With the greatest respect to you, and I'm not telling you how to do your "job", such that it is, but your attitude to Mark is pretty appalling. You've dismissed the idea out of hand completely and turned nasty on him when he's tried to reason with you.
Quote: | An empty looking board goes down like the plague. |
Yes, and so does one where the admin are seen to be having petty arguments with the members.
I set up a Sports Section on my forum at the request of a member, it took an initial flurry then died down but that was probably coincidental with the end of the football season and none of the home nations being involved in the Euro campaign. I'm sure it will start up with a vengeance soon but then my forum is completely different to this one.
I agree with you admin, a Sports Section on a music based forum would have little or no interest but my suggestion to Mark is to run a poll to see how many members would be interested and then go from there. |

Angus,
Please don't make this a 'On my board, I wouldn't do......'
With respect, this isn't your board. Also, I did not dismiss the matter 'out of hand', as I gave perfectly valid reasons. The point is as valid now as it was the other 3 times i have said it...
If someone chooses to ignore what is said and continue with a campaign to obtain a sports board, even when it has been denied, do you not think that that smacks of either 1) inability to listen, 2) inability to understand, 3) a lack of caring that it has been denied and an attempt to continue with the express hope that continued nagging will change the decision or 4) a strop because what they wanted has not been granted.
I find it a little strange that someone with so few posts, thinks it is important to post about the way the board is run. |

Angus,
If you dislike the way this site is being moderated then take it up with the Admin Team on a more private basis rather than throw toys out of your pram. The only person whose showing disruptive behaviour right now is you.

Hi Made is Surrey and Angus-Firstly, many thanks for sticking up for me on this particular thread-it is much appreciated.
Admin-I am extremely disappointed at your various posts directed at me containing a number of inaccuracies.
The title of this section is Views and Suggestions-I simply suggested a sports section which I would enjoy contributing to. You advised no (I suggested why not give it a go after the first rejection) and then when was advised no again simply stated I would post elsewhere . Accusations of me having a strop, continued nagging, shake my rattle, posting threats and alike are totally bizarre.
I think a more considerate/considered approach should be taken by your good self towards the folk that choose to contribute to this board. |

Wireless,
Thank you for your kind opinions. My last post on this thread used to sit where your post now currently resides. It was removed by Admin which I felt was unfair as I felt the intent of the post had been misconstrued by Admin, however, I accepted the decision, apologised privately, and effectively put the argument to to bed.
As this was your first post on the forum perhaps it would have been put to better use by introducing yourself to the other forum members or joining in one of the friendlier debates instead of raking up a dormant argument. Just a thought...........
Mark,
I do still believe that a Sports Section would have little or no impact on this board, but perhaps if there were one it would keep any related topics in a section of their own instead of cluttering up The Coffee Bar with random threads. At least that way it could be proved over a period of time whether or not the section was working by the amount of activity. I started a poll on your behalf in the The Coffee Bar, unfortunately it has had little interest so far.
Good luck! |

Hi,
As a Mod on this group I don't see any problem with a sports board on here. This place isn't only about Radio 2, we have boards for Books, Theatre and a Quiz Zone which are the least posted-on boards.
I would expect a Sports Board to get much more attention that any of those three. If it does then that would justify it's presence here. Anyone not interested in Sport can ignore it when viewing New Messages.
I'd encourage Admin and any other opponents to the Sports Board to observe the outcome of the Poll and then decide.

I am against the idea of a sports board. To be honest with you, there a few sub-forums on here that I think are a complete waste of time. |

I saw your other message elsewhere Mark, sorry if you've decided to leave.
I can also confirm that I've had a pm from Briant, saying he also has left.

I can't imagine why Briant would decide to leave this board but it's a real shame. I'm certainly going to miss his input and knowledge of music.
Good luck to you Briant... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I too am sad to see both Mark & Briant leave. Apart from his great support for Richard Allinson, didn't Mark also have a great nose for sniffing out trolls?! I hope both will return sometime.
My pennysworth. I don't think any of the boards are 'A waste of time' just because they may have a minority interest. I may not look at the theatre or book boards because I'm not a theatre goer nor a 'bookworm', but others are, so why shouldn't they have a place to chat about it? I'm not interested in those two coffee bar word game thingys (Mallets Mallet & TV / Film connection) and never look at them but no one seems to be calling for those to be pulled, and no I'm not asking for them to go either. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Sorry to see Mark and Briant go.
But the pull may prove stronger than they think. I left the 'official' R2 message board community in 2004 because of some disgruntlement or other and came back three days later because I was missing it!
Let's hope we haven't seen the last of these two gents.

I'm also sad to see Briant and Mark go. Briant has been around since I first used message boards.
I agree with LEE that none of the boards are a waste of time, I very occasionally look at them if something in that area should suddenly interest me. Our interests keep changing, they have too or we'd become bored.
I read several months ago that message board useage is down in general but I think it will return. I know I've not been posting much anywhere but there are reasons for that! It's up to all of us to try and keep things interesting as I know I'd miss not having somewhere to come to read and post.

WELL, THE LATEST PERSON TO LEAVE SEEMS TO BE ADMIN HIMSELF!!
With all the fallings out we have parted company.
admin now looks after just the classical/Radio 3 R3ok board, and I'm still here looking after R2ok
admin did set up this board at the start, always grateful for that
I've put concluding comments on the recent Polls. From the results I've concluded that there won't be a special Sports Bard, the Fantasy rubbish will be archived, the Book and Theatre boards will stay.
If anyone thinks these conclusions are unfair post your comment on this thread.

In my opinion John, the Fantasy Schedules was rubbish. Radio 2 is pretty much alright as it stands and it just sparks pointless debates about who should replace who, much like the Radio 2 Message Boards
My niggle is with the Sports Section. Hopefully I can post my opinions a bit more freely now as that is all they were originally and I got into a whole lot of trouble with account suspensions just for having an opinion.
My feeling is that the poll wasn't given a chance because it just turned into a nasty slanging match when all that was required was a simple yes or no. As a result I feel that some posters may have been deterred from voting for fear of being dragged into the toy throwing incident.
Its only my opinion now and I don't wish to tell you how to run this place but if you were to set up the said section and road test it for a couple of months, if it didn't warrant the space given to it the threads could be moved into the Coffee Bar as admin suggested.
I don't care either way what happens but the Premiership starts on Saturday and I know it's not everyones cup of tea but it does strike up conversation. We are also in the middle of the Olympics with team GB doing ok for themselves so far and we've got Lewis going great guns in the F1.
If it works, it works. If it doesn't then at least we had a go! Forums with limited activity are far easier to moderate anyway! |

Thanks Angus.
As you say the fantasy schedules are pointless and have just caused arguments in the past, that's why they were moved; their unpopularity means they'll be archived.
Your opinions on the Sports Board are known Angus but I think we should just go with the result of the poll. The football season has started, premier league next week, olympics, F1 etc. Start up their own threads in the coffee bar and the number of threads and volume of postings can determine if a new board is needed.
Cheers,
John W |

Yep, no probs John
As I said it was just the petty way the whole thing was handled that gave it no chance at all. It wouldn't have bothered me either way and I voted against it anyway.
I'll put this one to bed now!

Outstanding re the latest add on's to this thread.
I am just back from the USA (Dallas) after a period following my resigning/departure from this Board.
To my amazement I find I have received 10 plus notes saying "Don't leave this Board/your support for Richard Allinson is outstanding".
I am very encouraged by these notes. So thank you guys/girls-you know who you are. Have to say I have loved this Board since it was first set up and if the Admin point person is leaving/has gone then I am back on this Board big time.
Would confirm I have no views any longer re the Sports Board / and if Admin really has gone then I am back on the Richard Allinson threads etc as a focussed participate.
