I haven't posted there for ages and I'm now out of the habit of even looking in, but I understand what you're saying Helen. Not only are the efforts of the troll in question an abuse of the facility, but the style of moderation itself is an abuse. In fact, it appears to be designed to block any discussion about any issue regarding the operation of Radio 2 that the station's management doesn't approve. Many of the posts that I've had deleted or that simply haven't been approved for posting (thanks to pre-mod, in which I suddenly found myself one day without explanation) have been critical of the judgements made by senior management. Apparently, it just ain't the done thing to criticise the BBC's senior managers on BBC web forums!
On one occasion - and just to wind up the mods - I claimed that the Radio 2 controller "evidently couldn't run a proverbial drinking session in a brewery". Not only was the post not authorised (there's a surprise!) but I also received a stern email warning in which I was told in no uncertain terms that the messageboard existed for the discussion of R2 programmes and presenters and not for the purpose of criticising the decision-makers.
Hmmm.
So, perhaps the tactic should be to organise a concerted campaign against the senior managers responsible for the operation of the messageboards? Perhaps we should all independently write a fairly standard letter of complaint to the Radio 2 Controller asking why the MB's are being run in the way they are?
We'll get the standard political waffle reply, of course, but if we do we simply write again.
And there's always the Trust to complain to formally. The BBC senior managers are frightened stiff of the Trust at the moment - especially with the prospect of a reduction in the Licence Fee looming (as has been suggested in the last few days). |

I think that would be a good idea. I may be able to get a bit further with a name or department, I'll keep you posted.
I'm not going to the press, but when mine and Soul Sister's posts made the press it seemed to sort them out a bit!

Threatening them with the Press is always a good idea, simply because all Press Offices (such as the Beeb's) absolutely hate having to get involved in damage limitation.
At the moment, the Beeb's PR dept will be on red alert to ensure that nothing negative hits the media in the light of the new Government's position on the BBC in every respect, and especially the Licence Fee discussions which are due to start next year. That's why the R2 controller put out this (trumped-up?) release over the weekend about Jonathan Ross being welcome to come back to R2 in the near future (yeah right!).
So any threat to go to the press (especially the right-of-centre anti-BBC press like the Express and the Mail) wouldn't go down well at all - especially if claims were made along the lines of "BBC stifles licence-fee-payers' freedom of speech in discussion forums".
Ho ho. |

I wonder if the aforementioned troll had carried a vitriolic campaign against Chris Evans similar to the ones he carries against certain programmes/presenters would he still be on there?
I have seen many posts on there, before they are removed, and most are so inoffensive it's a joke whilst his rantings and nastiness stay
I have now come to the conclusion ...used to think I was unkindly thinking it ...that there is something seriously wrong with someone who repeatedly says the same thing over and over again ...and a board that allows him to ...well.......
It would seem to me that posters who are just trying to have their say about the way he posts and about the way the rules are applied are.bashing heads against a brick wall. |

I think there's an underlying psychological disorder there somewhere, I really do.

You could try something like: "I really, really enjoy listening to Chris Evans in the morning. The sound of his voice puts a smile on my face and provides me and my whole family with the happy, lively and upbeat start that would otherwise be missing".
Do you reckon it would be modded? Is it worth the risk, even? |

My gut feeling, tells me that SN is Peta's alter-ego.. the speed at which some posts are removed- seconds in some cases, even when there is nothing wrong with them, when you're in a conversation with SN is suspicous. |

I've always maintained that computers aren't "dumb terminals" but living, breathing things. This is living proof (if proof were needed) that computers know good radio from bad! |

I had a post removed today..
Somebody asked where Scotty is.. all I replied with was...
"Sharpening his Axe" and it was removed! If I had put playing with his chopper I'd have understood. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

It's more likely that he was doing the latter, if the truth be known. |

According to his Facebook, his mum has died so he's spending less time on the computer. |
