In the main, this board has championed talent over fame and celebrity since it's creation. Unfortunately, it appears to be the 'in thing' for producers and bosses to import celebs as they believe it will draw the punters in. I cannot see it changing any time soon.
The author of that article could also have mentioned Brad Pitt's R2 documentary on Nick Drake from a year or two ago. I am all for different voices narrating these types of programmes, but I would rather people concentrate on what's being said, not on who is saying it.

| The article is a few years old, but radio 2 have hired a few well known names over the years, and the BBC have come into criticism paying high wages. |

That's fair comment Cherskiy but should it be a requirement to be TV/film celeb to become, say, a Radio 2 presenter. I'm sure there are plenty of presently unknown DJ's out there who would love a chance to make it to the dizzy heights of national radio, but, as you say, it seems to be something of a closed shop at present to all but the famous. Which brings me to another question, How did they become famous and who gave them their break into stardom? Someone must have done. |

Something equally annoying are DJ's who revert to a mid-American DJ speak accent. Real people dont speak like this, but Radio 2 seem fit to use these people. All we get from them are cliche ridden links delivered in phoney accents with fake enthusiasm.

Does he work between 2-5pm every weekday afternoon? |

The big irony, of course, is that if Terry Wogan was around these days and send his infamously back-to-front tape to Radio 2, he wouldn't have stood a chance - they would have just seen something from some hick DJ in Ireland and chucked it straight in the bin!
Wogan's good fortune was he sent his demo in at a time when the BBC had room for the occasional maverick like Mark White, who was prepared to take a chance on an unknown - likewise, Ken Bruce would probably have never made it past Hadrian's Wall if the present R2 management were in charge.
I suppose the industry's changed a lot since those days - I work in it, and there are aspects of it that stink, quite frankly - and with Radio 2 seemingly in direct competition with the commercial sector in a way it never was before (even down to playing the same flippin' music!), the pressure to deliver in the RAJARs is greater than ever. But if another Terry Wogan turns up, will there be an avenue for his talents to reach a wider audience?
