Like an extremely flexible condiment, it seems that Mark Radcliffe (Radio 2) goes with everything. He pops up in various time slots, covering well for daytime DJs' holidays. But it's not only the slots: it's the fact that he works just as well alone, with Stuart Maconie, or with Liza Tarbuck, with whom he is currently covering for Steve Wright.
Theirs is a highly likable partnership. They are relaxed and yet sparky, with plenty of lively, funny banter bouncing fondly between them. They talked about the presents they swapped after their last broadcasting stint together. Radcliffe bought Tarbuck some fine wine; she gave him a local government DVD on becoming a magistrate. "I knew you wouldn't have seen it," she quipped.
The audience relishes the silly faux familiarity, reminiscent of the Mark and Lard days ("Oh Victor," Tarbuck says to one listener who has emailed, "thank God you're back"), and gleefully embellishes it. "Has anyone seen the spirit level?" asks one. "No," snaps Tarbuck. She has a loveable laugh, great comic timing and, you hope, more Radio 2 gigs in the future. |

Wright and co. could learn a lot by taking notice of Mark and Liza. Problem is that Wright's too arrogant. |

I would love to know how the listening figures fluctuate when Steve Wrong is off. I suspect they would make interesting reading! It's been great being able to have R2 on 2-5 this week. _________________ MiS |

Very interesting banter today ( Thursday ) with each other. I think Liza was over stepping the mark a little, but calmed down after a while. |

What I heard of the show today I thought was excellent; pity I was still driving home at 5.

I'll go with that one Iain.
I've never understood why Ken and Steve have 2.5 and 3 hour shows respectively, when they could easily fit another show in if they cut the aforementioned shows down to 2 hours. |

Sounds fine Iain except that 3 hours of Chris Evans would be far too much - in fact 3 minutes of Chris Evans would be far too much in my opinion. How about changing him and Stuart around? Although I suppose that would make Chris on too late for the (mental) age of most of his listeners. |

Apart fron that, it's fine, though I would retain Sarah. _________________ MiS |
