NEW YORK - Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28 years old.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there found him dead at 3:26 p.m.

The Australian-born actor was an Oscar nominee for his role in "Brokeback Mountain" and has numerous other screen credits.

He was playing the Joker in the up and coming Batman Movie Dark Knight to be released this summer. What a waste and very sad news.

I felt like slapping Julia Hartley-Brewer of the Sunday Express for the flippancy with which she treated the story, saying it was just another Hollywood event and nothing compared with thousands dying in Africa. Mad

Spare us the Lenny Henry-isms! Send them a cheque if you feel that way. The way I read the tales beforehand it seemed that Ledger was suffering from depression in relation to breaking up with his partner and mother of his child.

Depression is a very real thing which has affected my brother, sister and me. I hope Julia Heartless-Bitch or her family doesn't suffer it. This seemed to me to be a very genuine thing Ledger suffered from and not an X-Factor sob story.
