Whilst swooning over "All Along The Watchtower" this afternoon on the Big Show hosted by Mark Radcliffe, I really noticed some bongos creeping in during Jimi's guitar solo...
I've never noticed bongos before at all, let alone this pronounced.... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Certainly can't detect any bongos on my copy. I know that there were very many studio takes and Hendrix is said to have then spent three months tinkering around with the mix. As the album they took it from (Voodoo Child: The Jimi Hendrix Collection) is notable for using some alternative takes I went to Listen Again (about 1hr 12min in, after that godawful Regina Spektor thing!) but I still can't hear bongos - I think what it is, they've obviously cleaned it up and digitally remastered it, because it sounds very "clean", and what you can hear is the bass guitar actually being plucked, which makes it sound like bongos.
That's my theory, anyway - I'm no expert! _________________ Ron |

Well, after three attempts to get to the right place on listen again ( I really must get Broadband.. )
I have to say I couldn't hear Bongos this time either but.... yesterday when I made the posting, I was listening via my Digi Box so maybe the sound quality was much better?
There were definitely Bongos present, which really stood out to me.
Maybe I was in Africa at the time?
I'll dig out my copy and play it on my DVD player..... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
