I can't yet find an official source for this dire rumour, but according to various posters on the 6 Music messageboard, George Lamb is replacing Russell Brand on Saturday evenings.

Get your pitchforks sharpened - if this is indeed the case I am absolutely STUNNED by the BBC's utter stupidity and contempt for its 'customers'.

Various posters mention it in the thread starting on this page:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb6music/F1950413?thread=5020256&skip=6960&show=20

Also mentioned here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbpointsofview/F1951568?thread=6012337&post=71020207#p71020207

Remember, it's not been officially confirmed, so don't get in too much of a lather ........ yet!

I don't think the suggrestion of George Lamb popping up on Radio 2 is likely to happen in the current climate.

It does seem utterly ridiculous, but given the current level of stupidity within the BBC management anything is possible.

Hang on, I think I mentioned this on here as a joke - I hope I didn't spark the rumour!

I think it is work of wind-up merchants over there. At least I hope it is. After all, wasn't Brand foisted upon Radio 2 listeners from over there? And in any case the perpetrator of such stupidity has now gone. Well anyway we have Alex Lester this evening from 9:00 and he has announced this on air on his usual early mon-fri show this week.

I don't understand what you mean, Mark. Are you saying that George Lamb is more controversial and cutting edge than Russell Brand?

BBC Radio 2 should look for someone else? Why replace with another edgy broadcaster?

George Lamb is a very talented broadcaster, just like Russell Brand. Who would you like to replace him?

Question (mark) Why does every thing you write end with a question mark? See what I mean? Do you have to put one after everything you write? Now you've got me doing it! Almost..... Rolling Eyes

I think Allinsons Albums would be a good choice for Saturday night on Radio 2.

Isn't that a bit too commercial?

The revival of Stuart Maconie's Critical List would be a good idea. I'm surprised Lesley Douglas axed it, as the show was quite popular.

I like the idea of a comic replacing Russell Brand, though.

I think we all know who Lesley Douglas is...

Scott Nelson used to have an annoying habit of having an awful picture on his signature...

If they must replace him with a comedian at least lets hope they replace him with a proper one.

I agree-decent/proper comedians seem to be somewhat in short supply currently.

I would much prefer music based shows to go out on the Saturday slots of 10-1pm and the 9-11pm.

Mark M,

I total agree with you. Radio 2 needs to start and find it's feet without replacing something with something similar.

Most of the comedians Lesley Douglas hired for Radio 2 and 6 Music are perfectly fine.

Yes maybe one or two? No Brand was went over the top. It's time for Radio 2 to re-group. Lets keep it safe for the time being and all this scandal blow over.

What about Chris Evans, Lesley Douglas's 'other' "pet"? He did worse things than Brand during his Radio 1 days.

Evans mocked Anna Franks' diary.

Indeed. The art of innuendo seems to be lost these days, and they just go for four-letter words, genitals and penetration! Shocked

Need someone of the class of Kenneth Williams, Frankie Howerd, Bob Monkhouse, Max Miller. Seems the only decent joke writer we have is Barry Cryer and he's getting on a bit!

I don't think Matt Lucas would be ideal for Radio 2?

I can never understand these days why someone who talks at length about genitals, bottoms and the like, and throws in four-letter words is now regarded as being talented. If that doesn't show you how standards have slipped I'd like to see what has!

The Independent newspaper today has a big article about George Lamb and the likelihood of him replacing either Russell Brand or Jonathan Ross. I haven't had time to read it all yet though so don't know what reasons they give, although there is note of the many listeners who have complained about him.

Strange these papers are killing Ross Radio 2 show off, and getting someone else to hop into his seat before he returns in January? Something we don't know?

I could be wrong but I'm sure I read at the end of last week that George Lamb was replacing Russell Brand. I'm sure it was on a BBC site as well.

I hope that proves wrong Helen, Lamb (or 'Lame' as he is frequently referred to on the 6 music message boards) sounds as awful as Brand does. I'm only going by what I've heard on the trailers & the infamous Ray Davies 'interview' clip on 'You Tube'. I pray he never makes it to R2 and Lesley Douglas takes him wherever she ends up next, which I hope is far from R2!

I've not heard him as I rarely listen to 6Music but I can remember reading on the R2 board that he was not liked by those who did listen to him. The people who mentioned him were names I knew from Jezzas and another board and I don't think they were moaning for the sake of it!

Why keep parachuting DJ's from 6 Music onto Radio 2?

Because they're cheap, can work the desk, and will likely as not end up getting chucked off the air as a result of listener complaints, thus easing the block in promotion.

Am wondering if Douglas's departure might see an end to all these controvertial tv 'pretty boys' getting signed over genuine, experienced radio talent like Baker?
